Monday Meal Plan - Weekend Grocery Trips - Budget Update

It's Meal Plan Monday!  This will be the day I show you what I have planned out for the week. You can find the printable that I use for my binder here.  Lunches are also packed for the four of us (either sandwiches, leftovers, or salads) 5 days a week.

Weekly Menu Plan:

Monday - Pork Chops, Green Beans, & Rice

Tuesday - Venison Stroganoff & Salad

Wednesday - Bubble Pizza & Salad  This was the 1st time having this - make sure your hamburger & sauce mixture is saucey. Ours was kinda dry.

Thursday - Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup (it's dance night, so every Thurs will be something quick and easy)

Friday - Shrimp Fettucine & Salad

Saturday - Homemade Pizza & Movie Night (this is usually on Friday's, but we are spending the weekend at a condo with my family so I bumped it a day to prevent us from going out to dinner)

Sunday - Roasted Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Corn, & Stuffing

I also did some grocery shopping this weekend and got these items.

Weekly Purchases:

Piggly Wiggly -  $13.37

I only used one coupon this weekend and it was on the yogurt. Pigs ad was the only ad that had good deals in it this week around us. I live in the middle of nowhere, so there really isn't a huge choice on where to shop.

Discount Grocery Store - $14.90

I do have to run to Walmart for a couple of things on Tues, but I have gift cards that I earned to use there.

Disclaimer: I have a stockpile, nothing like Extreme Couponing, but I do have one. If you see that my menu doesn't match a lot of what I bought, that is the reason why.

Budget Updates:

Groceries - $28.27  Ytd - $28.27

Debt Principal - $296.24 YTD - $296.24

Entertainment - $20.00 YTD - $20.00 (This is where my downfall is going to be, I already know I'm blowing it this coming weekend when we go snowtubing at the ski hill)

Animal Food  - $0.00 YTD $0.00

Savings - $1900.00 YTD $1900.00 (We sold our snowmobiles this week, which gave us a good start.  This is part of the turning clutter into cash that I had mentioned in my opening article.  Trav and I decided that they were a money pit because every time we went out it was at least $100. We were lucky that we have quite a bit of snow right now and they went quickly.)

Let me know if you have any questions or want more information on anything, I am more then happy to help :)

Yay on being able to sell the snowmobiles! Questions...how big is your stockpile? How often do you replenish it?
I will do a post on my stockpile soon, but to answer your question my pantry is well stocked and I have a bookshelf in our coat closet that is stocked. I replenish it as I see sales or good coupons.
Jen: How do you plan your meals? Do you start with what you have on stock and then go to what's on sale/have coupons for? When I was doing my planning a while back I would start with what's on sale and let that determine the menu items. I'm looking to stock pile again (the good stuff this time. I cleaned out our pantry and fridge off all processed/artificial stuff). Thanks for all this info. What a great start to the new year!
My meal planning goes, first I ask the family at dinner on Sunday if they have any special requests for the week, from there I try and go with a combination of sales and what I have on stock. Like I said Friday is always known as Pizza and Movie night, so the girls know that's a given, Thurs will always be something quick or something Trav can whip up while I'm the Dance Mom Taxi, Sunday is always some sort of comfort food dinner after church. I can guarantee that spaghetti will be served at our house more the 2 times a month. My oldest Lexi is a nut for Hamburger Helper, which I refuse to serve so I have gotten creative with hot dishes when she requests that.
Pics of your stockpile, please! :) I'd also love to see your shopping lists and receipts.
Next post will be on the stockpile! I will add lists and receipts on my next shopping trip! You are going to see how bad I am at my list making now. I have a tendency to stray from it, perfect example was the Discount Grocery. I hadn't been in there in awhile so I didn't remember what they had and just kind of put stuff in my cart, but now I know!
Jen,
How to plan/budget for breakfasts and lunches?
Thanks!
Amy
@amykristen05 Breakfasts are usually cereal, eggs, granola bar, or a fruit. Like I said I have a stockpile so you will see how I work them into my budget as this goes on. Lunches are usually sandwiches or salads with snacks for the girls. dh and I will take the leftovers from previous dinners or whatever else we can scrape up.
Thanks Jen! I did my first week of menu planning using what I have on hand and the sales flyer from Publix. I found some coupons through Swagbucks so that was a plus and will use them on the things that are on sale this week. I took the shrimp and bubble pizza dinners from your menu. I have stock piled some whole wheat pasta so I'll be using that instead of the fettucine. For the bubble pizza I have some organic refrigerated pizza dough so that will be our base.
Thanks for a great start to this, all your tips, and inspiration.
I'd love pics of your food, too! (I'm silly like that).
