Save Money Right at Home

Save Money Right at Home

That’s right--you can save tons of money just by staying home. It is easy! A few simple changes to your routines and you’ll save big.

Find yourself eating out because you don’t want to cook? Keep a few convenience foods in the freezer or even order to go or pick up prepared foods from the grocery store. Not having to buy drinks and sides will add up!

Do you have a gym membership or attend fitness classes? My husband and I were paying more than $40 a month each to go to a cardioboxing class. We found that ordering our own punching bag was less than a month’s membership. We don’t have to hire babysitters or miss workouts for holidays or schedule conflicts—cuz our gym is always open.

Movie fan? Tickets, popcorn, candy, soda all drain the wallet pretty quickly. Start movie night at home. Get movies for free at libraries or online, or rent for very little. Even if you buy a new DVD, a box of microwave popcorn and a bag of candy, you will probably save money vs. taking the whole family to the theatre. Plus, you can watch in your jammies.

Think of all the ways you can save money staying home—get nail kit and have a manicure, grill some steaks and pick up a bottle of wine for date night at home, give the kids a pile of squirt guns and save a trip to laser tag. Rent a couple new video games and skip the arcade. Wash the car in the driveway.

Of course, you are still going to go out, but even if you do it half as much, you’ll notice the savings. People are always talking about trying to make money just sitting at home—turns out it isn’t that hard.
