All the little things matter!

I save money with all the little things that I do.  I have been making my own laundry soap for a few years now, and it has been the greatest daily household savings for my family.   I am paying approximently $1.54 per gallon of laundry soap and 15 minutes of time, to make my own. Compared to name brand at around $11.99 a gallon that is a huge savings. I saved $41.80 per homemade batch of Laundry soap. We hang dry our clothes to dry instead of using the dryer when the weather permits and wash in cold water to keep the electric bill down.  We make our own cleaning... read more

Make a list, check it twice...and then STICK TO IT!

I love lists. I have lists for my lists. To save money on groceries I keep a list of what I currently have on hand. Pantry, Freezer, and Fridge- it all gets written down. What we have and how many of each item. When we use something up or get really low on something regularly used- It get put on the "To Buy" List. Every week or every other week depending on what we really need to buy, I check my grocery sales fliers, clip my coupons I intend to use (after checking the match ups!). Then I add those items to my shopping list. On shopping day I take my coupons, my handy... read more

Plan Ahead And Know What Your Family Needs

It's true that couponing, clearance shopping, and a bit of creativity are the best ways to save money. However if you are just buying something simply because it's a great deal, you aren't necessarily saving any money.  It's easy to over-buy and in the end, over-spend.  Before you hit the stores you should sit down and think about what you family really uses within one month, six months, or even a year. Here are some great questions to ask yourself:   Grocery Shopping Deals: How many pantry staples do we go through each month? What condiments, spices, and... read more

Stockpiling to Save Money

  • by Diane

The easiest way for me to save money is to stockpile when prices are low.  Nothing costs more than when you have to buy an item at full price when you run out.   In order to stockpile effectively, you need to have a basic knowledge of what a good price for an item is.  Once you know that, you can shop the sales and use coupons to get the item cheap or sometimes for free.  Also, utilize rebates to save even more.   The best items to stockpile are ones that have a long shelf life and that you use often or at least will use before it expires.  I have learned... read more

Are your kids active in sports? Save money on concessions!

Describe 'Are your kids active in sports? Save money on concessions!' here   We are a large family with very active kids!  This time of the year, I am at 2-3 wrestling tournaments a week.  Entry fees are expensive enough, without having to worry about food and drinks!   I have found that there are very few places that will not allow you to bring in your own refreshments.  Drinks at concession stands are especially expensive.  I buy sports drinks, water and pop in large quantities at grocery or discount stores and bring them with me.  We also make sandwiches, bring... read more

Saving BIG on Clothing my little one!

I have discovered that most little ones outgrow their clothing, rather than outwearing them. So what I do is go to yardsales that advertise kids clothing. Plan to arrive at the start time to get the best selection. When you get to the sale you can tell if the clothing is clean, and well kept. If it is, you've just made a score. The usual resale is a dollar per piece of clothing...fancier dresses may be $2-$3. I choose sizes she is in currently, and stock up on sizes she will be growing into within the next year or two. I have been able to pick up my childs entire... read more

Cutting Costs - The Easy Way!

As a family with two young boys living on one income, it is sometimes hard to make ends meet and afford the things we want.  Finding discounts and ways to save does not have to be a burden.  In fact, it has actually become enjoyable to us, and even though we've been doing it for years now, we still feel a little thrill of victory when we successfully reduce a bill or save money at a store.   A great first place to start reducing costs is by taking a good look at your monthly bills.  We were able to save money by switching our car insurance (do your... read more

Save 1500 A Year

Anybody that is financially savvy will tell you that to really save money, you have to employ creative strategies in all areas of your life.  My family and I definitely do just that; we use coupons, ad match, stock up when things go on sale, watch our thermostat settings, pack lunches, and conserve gasoline as much as possible, etc, etc.  However, one of our best and most fun money-saving tips is to “copycat.”  We might absolutely relish a dinner out once (with coupons, of course), but we take notes and the next time around (and a lot of times from then on out) we use... read more

How to Save Money on Apple Products

You may have wondered why retailers don’t discount Apple products  to gain advantage over their competition. To be an Apple Reseller a company must adhere to VERY strict guidelines. One of those rules is that you must not discount the Apple MSRP by more than $5. That’s why you will see promotions like Gift Cards with a purchase of an Apple product, or maybe an accessory bundle with a purchase of a computer. To differentiate yourselves from the competition, companies have to be creative.   Here’s some of my best tips to get discounts on Apple Products:.   Never... read more
