saving-tip-the-price-adjustment

(Image credit)   Have you ever made a purchase only to find that item on sale a week later? Usually people hate when that happens, but not this mama!   I'm not sure many shoppers are aware, the price adjustment is a fabulous saving tip.   Most stores will allow you to get a price adjustment within two weeks of an in-store purchase date, or on-line ship date. The time frame varies by store, but I have found that for the generally it is 14 days.     The product can be used, however, you do need the original receipt (or order number for on-line... read more

How to Save on Organic Food Products

  • by Kim

It can seem like balancing your desire to feed your family healthy, organic food conflicts with your grocery budget.  Here are 5 ways to make the most of your food budget by buying organic where it counts.   1. When buying fresh fruits and veggies, only buy organic if you're going to eat the skin.  For example, choose conventional oranges, and organic apples.   2. If you want to stay away from rBST in milk, you may not need to buy the expensive brand.  I buy rBST-free store brand milk at Walmart. Many other stores only buy from farmers who pledge not to... read more

The basics on how I feed my family of 4 on $25 a week!

  • by JenM

Yeah right you say!?! Not possible!   It is possible. I also pack lunches for all 4 of us 5 days a week. It's not something that is going to happen overnight though.  We have been using this budget for a little over a year now.  Here is how I do it-       My husband is an avid hunter/fisher which means I have a freezer full of meat.  This is where I save most of my money.  I do occasionally buy chicken, pork, and beef, BUT only if it is on sale! You can substitute venison for most things beef.  The Internet is a wonderful thing for finding recipes for duck,... read more

Great Planning

The past 2 1/2 years has been hard for us.  We are living on a very tight budget with only one of us working.  I save every penny I can find.  Planning shopping trips it critical.  I always look over the weekly sale ad's and plan my trips to the store on who has the better deals.  I also plan out my meals for the week so that I only make one trip to the grocery store.  Making multiple trips to the store can be costly.  Buy fresh fruit from a farmers market as well, sometimes you can find better deals there than at your local store.  I just discovered coupon cabin about... read more

Let's go out to eat tonight!

My family loves to eat out!  Unfortunately, the expense of doing so can get out of control.  So, we have made it our mission to find the most inexpensive ways to eat out, so that we are able to do so at least a couple of times per week.  We have a family of five.  Our kids are ten, seven and five.  So, fortunately they are still of the "kids meal" ages, which certainly helps.  So, what have we found?  Several options, actually.  First of all, most people know that Tuesday is "kids eat free" night at many restaurants, including Applebees and Chick-fil-a.  Also,... read more

Resist Impulse Purchases

In an effort to save money this year, I have vowed to resist all impulse and otherwise unecessary purchases.  First, I aimed to identify the root causes of my family's impulse spending. I found many of our purchases were made on our Amazon Prime account, which will ship any priced item to our house for 'free'.  I did not renew this account when it expired, which also saved around $80.  I found that the number of our online purchases have dropped significantly, and that we didn't really 'need' these items to begin with.  I also found that many of our impulse purchases... read more

Working together as a family we save money and have fun!

  • by abbia

Since the beginning of recession we, as a family, have been diligently trying to save money but to make it fun. We live in an apartment so we have taken to container gardening.  We are lucky to live in Florida, which really makes this a year-round enterprise. We also shop using coupons and try to take advantage of the deals that are in the weekly circulars. We preplan our trips but I always bring along my coupon binder to catch those unexpected deals. I follow a few, select blogs, like Mommysavers and Target Savers.  These save me time by identifying great deals out... read more

Saving Means Being Able To Eat

Describe 'Saving Means Being Able To Eat'    I am disabled and live on my SSI income.  Living on so little money means you have to stretch it as far as it will go.   First I get my main groceries only once a month because it seems the more times you shop the more you spend.  I have several sites listed under my favorites from which I get coupons.  Always check these everyday, as new coupons are continually added.  Also, like Mommy Savers and other similar sites on Facebook, you will be surprised how many great couons and deals you can get for a limited time. You have... read more
