Pros: great concept, great plot, good characters

Cons: slow start

This is a great read!  Delirium is a book set in an alternate United States.  It's a world based on fear of human feelings.  Passion and emotions are considered a disease, "Delirium." Rather than risk the possibility of unhappiness that comes with making choices in life, the people in this society rather have their path chosen for them.  They are content to go with the flow and blend in with everyone else.

The story follows a girl who is content with this life.  She looks forward to her 18th birthday when she can get the "cure" for Delirium, which holds the promise of no more of the feelings and confusion that can come with human emotions.  She looks forward to the time when her education, career, and even her spouse will be chosen for her.  Her journey takes her down a different path and towards a different perspective on life.  She learns that with heartache can also come great joy and that there are times when a person needs to take control of their own life. Sometimes things aren't what they seem.

This book is the first of a trilogy.  The 2nd book, Pandemonium,  comes out 2/28/2012.  I can't wait!

Delirium
Description:

They say that the cure for Love will make me happy and safe forever. And I’ve always believed them. Until now. Now everything has changed. Now, I’d rather be infected with love for the tiniest sliver of a second than live a hundred years smothered by a lie.
