Pros: noninvasive
Cons: takes practice to get it right
The exergen temporal artery thermometer has definite pros and cons to it. It is very noninvasive and easy to use on a sleeping child. It is comfortable for the child as it does not require anything inserted in the ear, rectum or mouth. On the negative side it took me a lot of practice to get the hang of using it properly to obtain an accurate reading. Once I did though it was easy to use. It is a little pricier than the oral or ear counterparts but not too bad.
