I have been a fan of James Taylor and Carly Simon for as long as I can remember.  It would be hard to imagine that anyone that is a product of those two could produce anything not worth listening to and Ben Taylor's newest CD just proves me right.

I first heard Ben Taylor on one of my favorite movie soundtracks, "Bye Bye Love", where he remakes The Beatles "I Will" and I've loved him ever since.  And that is saying alot because being a huge Beatles fan I generally do not tend to like remakes of their songs.  However, there was just something about Ben's version.  I listened to a few more of his tracks on youtube after that and I'm sad to say that after that, I kind of forgot about him.  So, I'm so glad now to get the chance to hear him again.

His voice in a word to me is soul.  His tone is soothing, romantic and takes you away.  I can put this on and immediately feel myself relax which is nice in this ever stressful life.

While there wasn't any songs on the CD that I wasn't particularly fond of my favorites, the ones that you tend to wear out, are "Listening", "Not Alone", "Worlds are Made of Paper", and "Vespa's Song".

All in all, if you haven't heard Ben Taylor, give this boy a listen.  I think you'll be glad that you did.

Pros: Lyrics are Inspiring; sound is unique--mellow yet upbeat

Cons: None

I have become a new fan of Ben Taylor.  I had the opportunity to listen to his upcoming CD, Listening.  I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, especially coming from parents who are larger than life for me.  His voice has the beautiful quality of James Taylor and Carly Simon. His sound is smooth, seductive and soothing—someone you would want crooning to you late at night.

I found the songs on this CD very relaxing and mellow, with just enough upbeat to entertain.  “Listening” leans toward folk and carries a great message.  The lyrics of “Oh Brother” are inspirational, and the melody has a light, unique buoyant beat.  “Giulia” and “Next Time Around” switch to a mixture of folk and country.  “Giulia” is very lighthearted and whimsical while “Next Time Around” is a bit more melancholy—presenting different sides of his music.  My favorite song is “Worlds Are Made of Paper”.    I love everything about the song—the melody, the lyrics and the rich, soothing voice.

Obviously, music is a very personal experience.  For me, this will be my go to CD after work to relax and enjoy with a glass of wine.
