Christmas gift ideas for a 9 month old

I wasn't sure where else to put this soooooooo ......... my son will be just about 9 months old at christmas time and I am having a hard time coming up with some ideas. I don't want to give him a lot because his grandparents will spoil him and he doesn't know what christmas is yet either. Also, I have a 4 yr old niece who I have to buy for and have no ideas ......... Thanks so much!

Books! For both. Books are always good for little ones to get and yet aren't top on many people's lists.

Units for toy storage, bookshelves, bins, etc.

I think at that age they are pretty happy with either the crumpled wrapping paper or the boxes from the other presents....

We did Little People and Weebles for both of my kids first Christmas. They were both 10 months old at Christmas. My daughter played more with the wrapping paper. My son also got the Tonka ride on truck and he rode that all over the house Christmas day.

For your niece, art supplies are great. My daughter is almost 4 and that is her favorite gift anytime.

If you don't already have one, the Fisher Price Aquarium for the crib is really nice. My dd played with it until I took her crib down a few months ago (she is 3).

My girls are 3 & 5, they love craft (foam stickers!) and art supplies. Tinkerbell and Disney princess are their favorite characters.

Empty boxes wrapped in pretty paper

When my first born was 9 mos old, that's what he was most interested in after opening the many expensive gifts we bought him! He played for hours with the boxes the toys came in and had almost no interest in the toys themselves. Seriously, I would buy a couple cute books (have you seen the touch & feel "Pat the Bunny" books---those are awesome!!) and save the extra money for when he gets to be about 4 or 5--when they really care! Oh and start a savings account now for when he gets to be 12 or so and the stuff on their Christmas list costs $300 per item or so (XBox, phones, etc)

I have a nine month old too and have no idea either, but the aquarium we have would be a great gift like someone else suggested or anything else that makes noise. Let me know if you get any good suggestions!!

For your baby, I'd wrap up some diaper boxes, the wrapping paper and bows are their favorite part.
