How high IS your cholesterol? - Page 3

My total cholesterol number is always above 200 but below 240. Triglycerides are always high (too much sugar).

I had my doctor do a differential diagnosis with a SED rate and CRP (C-reactive protein) test. Turns out I have chronic inflammation (which I know now since I have inflammatory arthritis). My liver and kidney function is compromised due to the inflammation so of course my cholesterol count is high (inflamed livers produce more cholesterol because the body is trying to heal damage.)

Lower the chronic inflammation, lower the threat of heart disease and stroke.

I refused cholesterol lowering medications because they damage the liver further and I need my liver.

Milk thistle supplements should help heal the liver. I try that first.

Limit sugar. Eliminate products with high-fructose corn syrup. Eliminate hydrogenated oils (read all nutrition labels, they are getting sneaky). Get more exercise. You have to be careful when you're a vegetarian. Some veggies eat the highest fat diet I've ever seen.

My cholesterol is 170.  Hubby's is naturally high, though.  We tried everything (diet, exercise, etc.) before finally realizing that meds were his best bet.  Otherwise, it was a constant fight, and one he rarely won, even on his "best" behavior.

my littlest son's doctor just called and said that his blood work came back good but his cholestrol was a little high, nothing to be too concerned with but watch what he eats and try to lower it.. 223.  the other tests, sugar, good cholestrol etc were all fine.   While now my dh is in a tissy because just recently our neighbor back home lost her 15 year old son at the first day of football practice from they think a heart attack.  You might have seen it on the news.  My little guy starts practice next week and of course my dh is freaking me out!!

I was alerted to my high cholesterol when I weighed 106 lbs. and was a vegetarian that ate low fat food, so it is totally my genetic makeup.  I have been on meds for about 5 years because my numbers were alarming (high cholesterol 350) and my father died of a heart attack at age 55.  My new numbers are somewhere near 119 on meds.  I am on Zocor that I get at Costco for $9.99/3 month supply and no side effects.  Something worth looking into.

I have no idea. I've never had it checked.
