I have a bunch of sugar cookies to frost for my Christmas baskets. Does anyone have a good frosting recipe that doesn't have corn syrup in it? Its a sheet of ice outside my house and I'm not going to the store for corn syurp when I jsut need a little bit of it.

Here's what I use for sugar cookies, it's from James Beard Cookbook:

1/3 c. butter
3-4 T. heavy cream (I sub milk)
3 c. powdered sugar

Cream together butter and sugar and beat in the cream. Flavor with 1 t. vanilla or almond or lemon extract. Fro chocolate frosting, add 1/2 c. dark cocoa sifted with the sugar.

I use royal icing for sugar cookies (it gets hard when it dries).

4 Egg Whites
6 Cups Powdered Sugar
1/2 Tsp Cream of Tartar

You can also use meringue powder instead of egg whites.

Beat the egg whites for about 5 minutes with an electric mixer...then add the sugar and continue beating.

You can a little more sugar to make it thicker (for piping) or thinner for flooding.

You can add pure vanilla extract or lemon extract if you like.

@ Swishina:  Does this recipe harden?
