What is your first name? Sheryl
What are your kids’ names and ages? Emily-22, Kurt-forever 6.5 (but would be almost 19), Tana-15, Avery-11, Merrick-10, Dustin-almost 9, Luke-almost 6. I also have a 4.5yr old grandson and will soon have a granddaughter!
How did you find Mommysavers? Have you referred anyone here? Were you referred here? My husband saw Kim on the news years ago and told me I should check out the site.
What does your user name mean? When I first started I used my first name, then one time when the board went through changes, I thought it would be more secure it I did not use my name. Not being very creative, Happymom with the first thing I thought of.
Out of all the things the members here have offered in terms of advice, support, counsel and criticism, what have you personally benefited from? And do you remember specifically who the member was that offered that advice? I have learned so much from the board in general. My ideas on money have changed so much over the years of being a Mommysaver. I do have a core group of people that I have become my really good friends over the years though.
How many coupons do you use on a regular basis? nOne. I really don't do much with coupons. I shop generic, sales and Aldi's.
What was your most recent "bargain"? We were browsing at WalMart on date night and dh and I saw a $50 Kinex set for $20. My boys had a great time building it. I think Merrick is a budding engineer or architect.
What have you done to save money this week? I just went and bought food to pack to take to 2 wrestling tournaments and a volleyball tournament this weekend. Concession stand food is way too expensive!
What do you consider a way of life that others think is a crazy way to save? I ONLY buy things that we will really use. I stopped buying all extra stuff. I used to buy things just because they were cheap, but it is not a bargain if you really don't need it.
What is your favorite store in which to find bargains? I pretty much only shop at WalMart, Target or thrift stores.
What is the best deal you ever found (even if it wasn’t at your favorite store)? Way back about 20 years ago, I was looking for a warm, long, down coat. I had looked everywhere when I spotted a lone coat hanging on a clearance rack at Sears. It was originally $120. It was marked down to $20. I took it up and asked if that price was really correct. I was told, no, it was marked down even further. I paid $12 for it!!!
What is your best money saving tip? Don't be snobby about brands. Most generic or Aldi's foods is as good as the name brands at a fraction of the price. We have also saved a lot using Angelfood.
What is your favorite frugal meal? Dried beef gravy is good! All you need is a pk of Budding beef (or generic equivilant) flour and margarine and milk. We cook it up and serve over toast.
Do you enter contests? If so, what is the best prize you’ve ever won? Not really. I have won a couple of post the most contests on Mommysavers and that is about it.
If money were no object, what 3 things would you buy yourself or your family? We would love to have a big wrestling room at home (padded room, basically!), some new computers, addition to the house.
If you had $10 to spend on yourself (you and you alone) what would you buy?
Fast food! I love fast food of almost any sort.
Are there words you live by? What are they? You get what you get, and you don't have a fit. And my newest motto, that I got from Kim: If you are unhappy and can't change the situation, then change your attitude toward it!
Sum yourself up in 1 word: Busy
