how much left after bills?

Thread Starter
just wondering if anyone was comfortable disclosing this. we are usually left with between 450-700 after all bills are paid on each paycheck (bi-weekly) this doesn't include the "extra paycheck" we get in certain months (that one does not have any bills designated to us. and our bills do not include savings ( which we need to build back up because of an unexpected move). We are a family of 3 if that makes any difference. the 450-700 makes me nervous but I don't know what the average is left over after all bills are paid so I'm not sure if we are doing ok. We have a lot of debt to get rid of, and with the move, all of our living expenses at least doubled .

well i think you doing well but if you have alot fo debt i would have an emergency savings then all that extra the 450-700 would be going to chunk down some of those bills. buts thats just what i would do. i would also make sure i was not using any credit cards if i had a surplus.

Dh gets paid once a month, and I get paid twice a month. When DH gets paid once all bills are paid, we normally only have between $75-100 leftover. When I get paid there is normally around $300-350 leftover, but I still have to pay for gas, groceries, or any other incidentals that come up out of that. It is hard making it stretch. My goal right now is to tighten the groceries up as much as possible, so I can send extra in towards credit cards. If I could get rid of the CC's I know I would feel a sense of relief. So, if I were in your shoes, having that much leftover, I would sock as much away to CC's or any other type of loan that you might owe on after you have your $1,000 EF.

This is a good question , cause I always wonder the same thing!
Although I assume that most people have about 500-1000.00 left?? I don't know , thats what I assume. But then I hear the statistics of people living check to check - and we have been there too.

right now our mortgage is outrageous , we are refinancing in march and that will save us about 800.00 a month.
But for now we also have the 450.00 - 700.00 range after bills, groceries and preschool payment. Or I should say , that we should have that much. Some months money seems to fly out of here.
Our grocery bill is also probably too high , But I am planning on working on that and everything else in my life that is haywire when my kids all go to school next year and I can think for more than 15 mins. .

Does that mean you have 450-700 left every two weeks or at the end of the month?

I'm so nosey I have been curious about this for a long time too!! Anyway we we have around 1700 each month after bills are paid, but keep in mind by bills I didn't include gas or groceries....and we drive a lot! It also doesn't include savings. Oh and we rent....so I'm not sure if this is good or not.....but its our life!

We usually have a little over $2000.00 left after all the bills are paid. We spend around $500-$550 a month on groceries and then $150.00 on gas (When it's not $4.00 a gallon of course) Then whatever extras we might have for the month, which isn't a lot most of the time. The rest goes into savings.

After bills, savings, retirement, shrinking funds, etc. (we already have FFEF in place) we have between 500-1,500 left each month. It's on the higher end if DH works overtime.

Ours varies depending on how much DH works and if we have a propane or insurance bill that month. In general I would say we have $1000-2000 left over every month. We have three more large loan payments of $900/month left though and so that will free up a lot of money. We will be putting that money away for a newer vehicle for me for next winter.

We have around $1600 left at the end of the month. We usually spend about $250-300 on gas and around $700 on groceries.
