Homemade Dog Chew Toys

We have a 15 month old lab and labs tend to have a longer puppy stage than other breeds. I am looking for cheap ideas for chew toys. We can buy a bag of rawhide chews for about $8 at walmart. It last about a week. She loves to chew and play. Any ideas????

I love labs. My lab is a 6 year old male named Max. My husband has 2 chocolate and 2 blonde labs. We have found that our labs love tennis balls. One of our labs even takes his tennis ball to the top of our driveway and lets it go. Then he runs down the hill and retrieves it.

We don't do rawhide. I heard it can messes up the stomach.

We get our golden the real dog bones. He loves the giant ones. Our Walmart sells them. They are about $8 also and last much longer.

I would also suggest a frisbie and ball. They love to retreive.

We bought a half side of beef from our local butcher, and it came with a lot of bones! We just cook the roast, t-bones, etc and give the bones to our golden....she loves them and will chew on one for a whole week! They also sell bones ( for stock, etc ) very cheaply there.....

The real bones will last them longer. Ask butcher shops for pork hocks, etc etc. They're generally more than happy to get rid of them for cheap. BJs also sells them in packages I believe. Another longer lasting one is cow hooves. Also less "stuff" attached to those, so better option for squeemish owners haha. You can pick those up at pet stores or grain stores. My dog tends to just blast right through rawhide or hide them. Actual bones/hooves keep him occupied a lot longer and he doesn't take off with them.

actually there are some chew toys you can make without buying anything.

1. Just take a long sock (a new one would be better because it wouldn't have your sent on it) and a tennis ball.

put your tennis ball inside the sock and tie up the sock. My dog really loves it! :) you can also cut a hole in the tennis ball and add one of those tiny bells that ring like crazy when you shake them and sow the whole up and tHeN put it in the sock.

2: take and old garden hose you don't need and a stick that fits perfectly in it. Cut about 1 foot of the hose and stick the stick in it and close it up (it makes a good frisbe)

3:Take some rope and large knot in the middle, then tie another one over it and another and another until there are only a couple lose strands hanging out from the side. then you have to choices.

A Soak the ball of rope in water and then freeze it. my dog loves to play with that :)

B You can also throw it in the washing machine with your clothes (it won't harm your clothes) after you wash it, let it completely dry. then give it to your dog (this makes the loose strands softer and thinner, and more attractive to your dog. :)

4. You can take a plastic container, an old yogurt box would work fine. Poke holes in it, and fill it with treats that can fall out the holes but not very easily. Or you could cover the inside with peanut butter and stick some treats on it. both ways work. my dog loves to try getting the treats out.

5. you can cut 2 holes in a tennis ball and stick a rope through the middle. You can play tug of war with your dog with this toy :)

Hoped I helped XD
