Does you state now require a dental exam to enter kindergarten?

I went to ds's kindergarten round up and it is now required by our state that your kindergartner need a dental exam(signed form by dentist) to enter kindergarten. the school was also required to put post cards in the packet about getting kids eye exams and were told in the next year or two that it will probably also be manditory that kids have an eye exam to enter school.

It's not a big deal to me since my kids go to the dentist. I would not have a problem about an eye exam either but it does add more expenses to school costs.

We were required to have an eye exam (which I think is a good thing), kids may not complain that they can't see when they look left and so forth and the eye exam will catch that in time. As for a dental exam NO, it is NOT required here.

No a dental exam is not required here. Kids have to be seen by a dr. 6 months before school begins. They also have to have an eye exam.

Neither are required for my area. An updated shot record is just about it. However, Aiden was in kindergarten 2 years ago....things may have changed since then. I will see when Reis does his round up this summer!

Neither are required here just up to date immunizations/physical....the ped checks their "vision" anyway and there is a spot on the school form for dental but it is optional. Hearing test is mandatory but the county sets up a day at the school to have them tested.

None of the above mentioned exams are required here yet.

Grrrrr! Who do they think they are? I'm so sick of government entities getting involved in parenting responsibilities. I can sort of understand wanting immunization records due to the desire to prevent epidemics, but I also think it is a parent's decision whether or not a child gets an immunization so at least there is a legal work-around. But dental exams? Come on! What is the danger? An outbreak of bad breath? This is getting ridiculous. The school can b*** out of my parenting role. Yet another reason to homeschool!

I was thinking along those same lines. I understand the requirement for immunizations, although I think some school systems require too many. Some diseases, it's better to let the kids catch and let their immune systems deal with it naturally.
But dental exams? Are they going to refuse to allow the child to start school if he has a cavity or an overbite?

I get the immunizations and the hearing and eye exam. But dental? Why, would that be required to start school?
