We keep a snack bowl of goldfish and one of pretzels in the car at all times. Nuts and granola bars are also common. We always bring our own water bottles along, no matter how long we plan to be gone.
Twizzlers and suckers are my 'bribery tools' for my toddler if we run into problems in the check-out (with all the candy)...I just let her know that I have a twizzler/sucker/etc in the car for her if she's good while I pay and bag the items. This has worked everytime. Well worth keeping them in the car!
If it's an all-day errand run, we pack sandwiches/chips/fruit in a cooler and eat when we get hungry. UNLESS it's a planned 'eat-out', then we use our budgetted restaurant money (we don't have much in that budget, so the sandwiches are much more common...LOL).
