Ham-shank or butt?

A nearby grocery store has shank and butt hams for $.49/lb. I'd like to get one or two to freeze at that price. Which is better? Whats the difference between the two?

I vote shank

I think it has better flavor...is easier to carve up and I like to use the bone for soup beans.

It really almost depends on what all you wanna use it for I think.

Butts are fine to though......but if the $$$ is the same "I" would go shank

Thanks M2M! I'm getting ready to go there shortly so I'm glad you replied. I'll have DH carve up the ham and we'll freeze it. I love ham and bean soup so the bone does get used. Is there anything else you can use the bone for?

I really only use it to flavor soups......we love soup beans(thats dh FAVE)but it's also great for seasoning brocc n cheese soup also.(most people dont add ham to it but it's really good)
