Do you have a website for your business?

Do you have a website set up for your business? What is your homepage like? How is it set up? Did you do it yourself or did you hire a pro? Please don't list your website (in keeping with MS rules), but tell us about it.

And remember, once you hit 250 posts, you can run an "ad" in our Networking forum or even contact Kim for advertising rates on the Mommysaver's pages. Is your business local? You can still put it in the Networking forum. You never know who checks in on Mommysavers in your area.

Dh and I both have websites for our businesses. Mine is local for my piano teaching, but is a great tool for communication with my parents & students (online calendar, updated openings, etc.). It has proven to be my #1 recruitment tool for new students, even better than word-of-mouth. There are 30 teachers in town, and I'm the only one with an online presence....they're sure missing the boat! I pay for my own site & domain, it's only $10/month. Cheap advertising.

Same story with dh's executive recruiter business, it's again for communication purposes, and people who read their ads get referred to the website. They're well-established, so they are independent, not working for anyone else, a worldwide scope. A website is a must in such a business. It used to be all the communication was done through mail and phone, now it's almost 100% email and online. They also pay for their domain & web space.

I have a website with my company, it was all set up, I got a 2 week free trail. Now its 14.95/month. and you have to do your own advertising. but I am trying it out if it isnt good I will set up my own.

Yes I have a website. It is through Microsoft Office Live which was free for the first year and then after that it is $14.95. It is fairly simple to set up yourself. No it isn't fancy, but it works, I get a lot of compliments. There is a great forum to ask questions of other Microsoft Office Live users and the help desk is very helpful to. I would recommend it.

But on another note, I get several hits now (a hundred or so a week)....It takes a lot of work to get a page rank through Google no matter who you use or who builds your site. There are places you can hire that will do that for you, but with a small at home business I can't afford to pay someone to do that for me. But you can google how to get a page rank (page ranks make you higher on the list of relevant searches). It took me almost a year to get a page rank of 2 out of 10.

But honestly I have never sold anything through my site, I have done better selling my gourds through Etsy. And that was super simple to set up a shop on there.

If you haven't visited my site, click on my signature and it will take you to the networking forum to get more info.

Gourdlady, you mentioned a company, if I understand correctly, that you can hire to help your page rankings on google? To me, this sounds like someone who has people simply click onto your site constantly to up the number of inquiries into your site. If I'm right, this seems so dishonest and even spammy. Am I understanding this correctly?

No. What they do is change your html codes and different things like that so google web crawlers will like your site better so you get a higher ranking on google searches.
