Do you ever feel like you can't enjoy spending money?

I have become much more frugal over the last 1 1/2 years. I enjoy the game of couponing, deal finding and stockpiling. I find though that I don't enjoy spending money on things that I used to have no problem with. Even when I've saved or budgeted for something I have a hard time acutally spending the money when the time comes. Anyone else feel this way??

I'm having this problem right now. I wasn't looking for a piano, but a high-end Schimmel showed up on our Craigslist that was perfect as a 2nd piano for my piano studio. I went to play it/test it out, and it was an absolutely wonderful instrument. In spite of the fact it was underpriced by several thousand dollars, I just about couldn't buy it due to idea of spending a large chunk of money. We got in the car, drove off, went one block, and my dh said..."what are you doing? Go back and get the piano!". Luckily the bank gave us a note to pay for it, since our paycheck won't be here for another week. Locally owned banks rock!

My stomach has been in knots all day. I won't feel right until the piano is here safely, and the debt is repaid. I can deduct the cost of the piano off my taxes as a business expense, and it's a good purchase and great business decision, but I'm still having problems doing it.

Sometimes but not always.

Case in point:

My toaster oven died about 3 months ago, next to the coffee maker it's the most used appliance in the kitchen. I looked high and low on the internet for a good quaility but yet frugal purchase. I finally settled in my mind that a new one would cost $50 or so. I refused to pay that much. I found my last one at the thrift store for $5 and just could not fathom paying that much for a new one. I looked in the thrift stores off and on for 3 months and finally found one for $2 about 2 weeks ago.
When I brought it home my partner was a bit irratated... we was going to buy me one for my B-day that was coming up in the next week. He's so sweet.

However, on the flip side we eat out way to much! I can easily drop $200+ a month eating out without blinking an eye and yet have a hard time buying a new toaster oven for $50.

I'll buy good sports socks for $8 a pair, but won't spend more than $5 a skirt at the thrift store. I bought a sweater for $20 at khol's took it back the next week, but then buy $100 sneakers without any issues.

I think it comes down to the item. Some things I have a hard time spending money on, other things not so much.

We are now saving for a "new" car and believe me I will have no issues paying for it with cash. I of course won't jump on the first deal, but will make sure it really fits all our needs.
I also bought a new dehydrator for $250, it was a great deal, and didn't have an issue with pushing the "buy now" button on eBay.

I guess it depends on how useful the item really is in your life as too if it's a harder time to make that purchase.

Sounds like the paino was also a good deal, and if it really will be used then I have no issues with that personally.

Absolutely! Unless I have a coupon or it's on sale, ugh, it's hard to spend $

Yes...absolutely. But....I used to enjoy it, too much. So--I'm really okay with it. I don't shop for fun...actually don't like shopping at all any more. Sometime I miss the "rush" when I bought something new--but it will be ok!

Same here. I used to love bargain shopping, and now I don't even want to buy things at 75% off! I just don't buy anything unless I really need it.

It depends on what it is. If it's something we need, even if it's not something fun, I'll fork over the funds.

Although I'm a bit p-o'd at one needed expense right now. Not long ago, Himself's car got a windshield ding, and he took it to the glass shop to get it fixed before it could spread - our insurance waives the deductible for windshield crack repairs. The tech told him that it wasn't in danger of spreading, that it didn't need to be treated. With the temperature fluctuations we've been having , that crack started to spread a couple of days ago, and this afternoon, had snaked halfway across the windshield. He took it back to the glass shop, and they told him that anything longer than a few inches, they can't seal. So we had to buy a new windshield. He reminded them that he had been there not long ago, about THE SAME CRACK when it was still small, and they told him it wasn't in danger of spreading, and that quite frankly, he thought they should have to eat the cost of replacing the windshield since if they had sealed it when he first brought it in, this wouldn't have happened. They didn't replace it free, but they did take 30% off.

I do at times--As other said sometimes I have no problem--like I bought a super sunshade for my dds stroller since between vaca and activities this summer she is really going to need one. However, I need new brown sandals as mine (after years) finally died beyond repair. Everypair I see is "too much" eventhough I have found awesome sandals for like $25 and I will wear them almost daily for the next few years--go figure

DH and I worked out a time table today to pay off the student loan in 24 months. He just came in and said, "Do you think when we get that loan paid off, we can go out to eat to celebrate and NOT use a coupon?" I told him I didn't think I could do that!

Yes, I feel that way sometimes. I actually got very frustrated at a large rummage sale that they have in my area. It's something that they do twice a year and they used to be famous for "most items only 25 cents!". I came in this year, and the lowest price on anything was 50 cents, and that didn't include much. Everything else was a dollar or more. I was kind of irritated because a lot of people go to that rummage sale for clothes on a yearly basis and depend on the cheap items! I know a dollar is still cheap of course, but I felt like I spent way more this year!
