Food for Thought: "Cut just $25 in spending each week, and you'll come out $1300 richer in one year."

How's everyone doing today? How did the spending freeze go for you so far? Here are some threads started during prior FTJ projects that I thought I'd bump up for reference:

We are doing good so far. I am glad you are doing a summer one so we can get back on track.

I think I am going to try the $25 dollar thing and see how that works. great idea

I am doing great, went to Aldi's with my approved shopping list and spend 5.77 and went to Save-A-Lot to get bananas and spent under $2.00, and bought nothing else.

I like that idea!

So...oopsy. I went over by 5$ on my alcohol budget. First off, its horrible that I have that on my approved spending list. But 2nd, I only turn 21 once.

Hopefully It'll be better, DH had a few things to add to the approved spending list, but compleatly understandable. Oil change for the car before we go to California. And I had to add a RX copay. He aggreed to eat what we have, and bring lunches from home.

Today went great. We didn't buy anything ..yay! We wanted to get out of the house, which usually means trip to McDonalds, but today instead we walked to the playground that is literally up the road from our townhouse and played there. And best of all DH is on board!!!

My hubby seems to be on board and is going to bring lunch this week..he's not really the spender anyway...so for my first day, I was very impressed with my RESTRAINT. I did not run for my coffee, which I needed on a busy Monday. I had to run to the store and make some returns and although there were some good sales and deals..I looked and walked out!

I spent $45 on groceries for the week. Our splurge was a visit to the library. We have no plans to go out of the house tomorrow. I think I can save $25 a week.

I'm here! I'm good! I was so busy working on my bargain boards I didn't even realize it was starting today! I'm ready though.

I do have to say that being a bargain mod. makes a spending freeze really hard! While I don't buy even 10% of the bargains I find (online, instore, anywhere), I still find unbeatable deals that are hard to pass up, especially if I know it's something we will use within the month! How do I squish that down when temptation is everywhere. Or is it better that I do purchase an item at 75% off (even if it was unplanned), rather than wait and buy it for much more later?

Saving $25 a week is NO problem, it's the "unplanned" spending when it comes to bargains, that I have a hard time with.

I did real good today. I like the idea of saving $25.00 a week. Actually I think I will put it in my lock box each week, that no-one knows about and try to forget it is there. If it is in the bank dh sees it and thinks we have money.

I am also trying to get my bills together and sit down and do a budget of some sort so that we can start working on paying of the high interest loans first. This will take me some time to do though because I am limited on long periods of time to work on these things.
