Some things I've seen recently on sale that could work as Christmas gifts for a variety of people:

  • Fragrances, cosmetics (Target)
  • Body lotions, candles, etc. (the big Bath & Body Works Sale)
  • Father's Day gift sets can be broken down for men and given at Christmas time - lots of gadgety type things, golf, grilling, etc.
  • Blankets, sheets (Target)

By the end of next month, things like sidewalk chalk, bubbles, water guns (which are still fun in the tub with the curtain closed!), baseball equipment, etc. will be clearanced, too...and these make awesome stocking stuffers!!  :)

I'm at a loss this year!!!  Since ds is now 10.5, it is getting harder and harder and he was hard to begin with.  I'm dreading stockings.  I don't want to buy a bunch of things from the dollar store and throw them away a few months later.  Yet it seems the good quality boy stuff costs a fortune.  I'm out of ideas for stocking stuffers, every time I look at Target there is just nothing anymore that he doesn't already have, or the stuff is too young for him, or too old for him, etc.

I'm going to have to get cracking, usually I'm done with stockings by now!

I don't like to buy crappy stuff either.  For my kids' stockings, I usually fill them with a lot of necessities:  toothpaste, shampoo, etc. and then a few "splurges" like candy, a game or trinket.  The practical stuff fills them up, but the splurges make them fun.

I know my DS is much older than yours, but some of the things I had in his last Christmas was a bottle of men's body wash from B&BW (I was buying a bunch of stuff anyway on a huge deal they had and so I got 2 of the men's scents to get up to the amount I needed). I also got one of those bath pouf things he could use in his dorm shower. He loves it and it filled up the stocking a bunch because they're so puffy. Those may be too old for him, but maybe he likes "smell good stuff"? I also put food items in my DS loves that I don't usually buy. I'll put in slim jims, or sour patch gummies, or those tubes of M&Ms, etc. Does he like any drawing supplies like colored pencils or chalk? Our younger nephew loves that stuff. Maybe a fun pair of socks like a pro sports team or movie character he likes?

my son will be 10.5 this year at christmas and I feel the same way about the stockings, (the big stuff I have no trouble with). So this year I am going to get all of us (me, dh, ds and dd) pass to our local amusement park for the summer, they have a great deal on them around christmas (cheaper then the summer price, plus they include parking and halloween event). They will be more than I typically spend on stocking stuffers, but then i will not have crap around my house and we will be able to appreciate them all summer and really they are not that much more after all the crap I normally buy.

Stockings a our house are just for treats. They get a bunch of candy and maybe a bottle of their favorite pop. We have done this for a few years now since my kids are getting older. They love it.

Thanks for the ideas!  I am going to use a few of them!  I love the bottle of pop idea, sometimes as a treat we'll buy single "Mexican" Fantas or something in the bottle, and one of those would fill up a stocking fast.  And the shower sponge idea, he does need a new one so I can look for  a cool one.  I like the other ideas too!  Thanks!
