DIY Summer Camp Idea: Bubbles

The theme for this week's summer camp idea is bubbles.

-Make your own bubble wands. You can do this with wire hangers. Or you can make a rectangle bubble wand by cutting a drinking straw or two to make two 4 inch pieces. String some yarn through the straws and knot it. Push the straws to make the shorter sides of the rectangle and the yarn makes the longer sides.

-Bubble art: add food coloring to bubble solution. Child blows into the solution with a straw making lots of bubbles. Lay a piece of paper on top and let them pop.

-Giant bubble maker. Put a plastic milk crate upside down into a plastic swimming pool. Add bubble solution to the pool. Have child stand on the milk crate. Put a hula hoop into the bubble solution and lift up. Your child will be in a bubble.

-You can find cheap bubble solution at Dollar Tree or make your own

Mix 2 c water, 1 c liquid dish soap, 2 T corn syrup
or
Mix 1/2 c liquid dish soap, 3/4 gallon water and 2 T glycerine

Anyone have some other ideas to go with the bubble theme or other recipes for bubble solution?

you could put bubble bath in the kiddie pool before you fill it up, and have a bubble bath outside.

Today we played carnival. We put some plastic dinosaurs in the sandbox and then dug them up. We filled the pool with water and cut fish shapes out of sponges for the kids to catch. We used a fish net from our goldfish bowl. Then I made popcorn and but it into small paper bags and one of the kids pretended to sell it. We have some more ideas to use later on in the week like a mini putt and bean bag toss. I put away loot bag prizes and then reuse them to give as prizes. hope this helps.

Spatulas and slotted spoons make great bubble wands, too.

Keeping the instructions on the side of your jar will help you remember the "recipe" the next time you make them too.

I agree! We tried a variety of DIY bubble wands, but the slotted spoons, strainers and sand toys made the best ones.

Bubble Snakes

Cut the bottom 1 inch off a water bottle. Slide a sock over the water bottle.  Dip the bottom of the sock into a bowl with dishsoap.  Blow into the top of the bottle and a bubble snake will form at the bottom.
