How much did it cost you for labor, delivery and hospital stay for your last baby? - Page 6

I just had my baby end of July. Total hospital costs for her care and mine ~$11,000. I'm not sure what my OOP will be, but I don't think I'll have any because I think it's covered at 100% after my family deductible is reached. With our insurance the deductible is $200, which we've almost reached. I had a c-section, and had blood drawn a few times.

For all 4 kids born between 1992 - 2004, our OOP was $0.

All 4 born in a hospital.

Had insurance for all 4 kids.

Had non-stress tests twice/week during last trimester plus frequent ultrasounds for last baby due to my "advanced maternal age".

Ditto for me...full insurance for both kids, all prenatal care, hospital stay (and one of my kids was in the NICU for 5 days) fully covered. We paid $0 out of pocket.

I was just talking about this with friends last night--the youngest of our kids being 10.  Most of us just had to pay a co-pay.  The rest was covered by insurance.  We were discussing how insurance has changed so much over the years...

Anyone else?

$20 co pay for all 4

#4 was in NICU for a week and we were still only responsible for the $20

What were your out of pocket expenses for your most recent child? 0

Year of Birth: 1999

Delivered in hospital: Yes

Medical Coverage: Yes

Out of pocket costs for labor, delivery & hospital stay: about $100

Any extenuating circumstances: Yes, she was born pre-term and with a life threatening infection.  Stayed 10 days in NICU.  The only thing that wasn't covered was the state mandated hearing test.  At first they said that the anesthesiologist wasn't covered either because he was out of network but then they said he was covered because he was a "hidden" provider (meaning you couldn't chose your own doctor."

We have great health coverage.  DH is self employed.  Since we have to pay for all our own insurance we choose and pay for the best.  It certainly paid for itself in this instance and in the two times I had lengthy battles with cancer.

Dd was born june of 2010 and we paid $0 for it. Actually we haven't spent a dime on his healthcare yet because our insurance is very good. We got lucky that way, though that does mean dh's income then is far far less than others but to us its worth it.

Got the bill for dd today... totals more than 3,500.  And that's with BCBS insurance.  Our deductible is 2500 per person and then we have an 80/20 split.  The weirdest part though is that the one thing that insurance didn't cover and wouldn't apply toward our deductible was the newborn care.. strange.
