So I ran out of dishwasher soap before my shopping day and really did not want to hand wash so I did a little internet search and found many people use plain old baking soda. So I did a load and man were my dishes sparkling clean.

so if you ever run out give it a try definately worked.

Interesting!!!! I am going to have to try this!!! I wonder if I add baking soda to my powdered detergent if it would help it clean better?

Thanks for posting!

Just fill the compartment with baking soda, does work wonders. I wouldn't recommend using it on finer china or crystal glassware if you have them for Thanksgiving or whatnot, just like with using it for household cleaning it has some scour action, so I would be paranoid that it would scratch. I do not own any of that stuff though so can not say for sure haha

I read a rec that suggested cutting store bought powder with baking soda to save a buck and stretch the detergent.

Great idea!

That's a good idea! You can also use a few drops of Dawn. MIL taught me that. For her really greasy dishes she adds a little store brand dishwasher detergent and a few drops of Dawn. She says it's just like using those Cascade tabs that have Dawn built in.

I tried to make my own. It cleans well but leaves a film after you use it 4 or 5 times on your dishes. So I buy the powdered cascade and if I run out then I use my homemade that I have in the cupboard.
