Homemade laundry detergent ok for Front Loaders?

Thread Starter
My husband and I are planning on making our own liquid laundry detergent. We were going to use the recipe that the Duggars use. I only wash for 6, but figure if it works for 20, it should work for us!

Front Loader washers require HE detergent because it doesn't suds up as much (might be other reasons?) Anyone out there use their own on front loaders without issue?

ALSO, I use cloth diapers part time. Any issues/recommendations on the recipe to use?

Thanks a bunch!

I use this same recipe I got from the duggars book and have a front loader. I've used it for over a year with no problems. You just use less. This recipe is not very sudsy anyway. I use more than I need to because my husband works at a power plant and his clothes get real dirty so I use 3/4 of the cap when it only needs probably 1/2 so you can gauge it to your needs. Good luck with it. This recipe has saved me soooo much. It cost me for the year what a large bottle would. PS Use her tip on the vinegar rinse-- it really works at gettting smells out and cleans the washer all at the same time.

I have been using the liquid detergent also and have never had any problems with it. I will about once a week run a rinse cycle with vinegar with nothing in it just to clean out any soap build up.

sometimes the diapers seem to be water repellant with the homemade detergent. You just have to play around with the ratio of your mixture and give them an extra rinse. Happy diapering!

I make my liquid detergent and use it in my front loader. No problems and its been over a year now. Also, they show the Duggars using front loaders when they do their laundry.

This sounds very interesting to me, we are only a family of 4 but we seem to dirty tons of clothes.

Could someone tell me the recipe or where to find it.

thanks

Thanks for the tip on putting vinegar in your washer.I only have one question do you use white or the cider vinegar.
