Ideas for 4 yr. old tea party bday

Hi! I am thinking ahead to August and my daughter will be 4. I am thinking of doing a Princess/tea party theme outside (weather permitting) at my home.

Who has done one before? What types of food did you serve? I would like to do the little tea sandwiches, but kid friendly, any ideas for decorations, acitivies, cakes, games.....

I will also have some boys too, so if you had one how did you accommodate boys?

Thanks! I welcome any ideas! I love to plan early, so I can find things along the way and save money on the party supplies.

I do already have mini porcelain tea sets that I got on clearance for the girls and some princess items from Target dollar spot. Not sure what to do for boys.

I always look at the Family Fun website to get ideas. I looked and they had some cute ideas for your tea sandwiches and some other decorations. I have also done some of their cakes and they are fairly easy and turn out really cute.

Here is what I was looking at:

A friend of mine did one for her little girl and served finger food snacks in the silver cupcake papers so each girl got mini marshmallows, cheese, grapes. She had mini sandwiches and sparkling strawberry soda in the tea cups. It was really cute.

I love Family Fun, they always have the greatest ideas!

I would probably just use regular size tea set items, the kids sizes are really small. My sister did a tea party for one of her girls and she had all my grandmothers tea cups that she collected and we let the girls pick their favorite to drink from, and they really got a kick outta that. She also had some short wine glasses, they don't have a stem but a footed base and are pretty substantial glass (not crystal) and the girls had sparkling grape juice in those, in addition to tea.

You could do even PB&J sandwiches for the kids, but cut them out with different cookie cutters in shapes like hearts, flowers etc Otherwise, I would probably just keep it simple. You could do fresh fruit kabobs, small sandwiches, fresh veggies, cheese/crackers etc

I saw tiara hair combs at WalMart yesterday in the Valentine Clearance, that might be fun addition for the goody bags!

My Little Pony has an entire story / stage production incorporated around a tea party. Might be something you could add. At this age, I don't think I would do anything different with the boys ... boys like tea parties too.
