Does linen shrink?

I bought a pair of linen pants and they're kind of long. I really don't want to hem them, so I'm hoping they might shrink a bit in the wash. If not I'll just send them back. Does anyone know if they will?

Yes...100% linen will shrink a lot in the dryer. I know unfortunately from experience! I gentle wash in cold with woolite and line dry all my linen items. I don't know that I would count on the dryer to make something fit though, if I tried it, it would end up dollsized and I'd be out a pair of pants. LOL

You might be better off just hemming them if it's just the length you're concerned with. When they shrink, they'll shrink all over, not just the inseam.

Yes, just like just like putting 100% cotton in a hot dryer. The length isnt the only thing that will shrink. Id hem them too, unless you want them shrunk all over.

Thanks! They're pull on pants and a little loose, so I wouldn't mind if they shrunk a little all over. The tag says they're 100% linen but they can be tumble dried on low

The only times I washed linen, they shrunk a lot, not a little. You could try something like Dryel in the dryer & see if that will shrink them up just a bit.

Shrinking all over doesn't necessarily mean shrinking in proportion - you could get a lot of shrinkage in the length and only a little in the girth, or vice versa.
I'd look into having them altered rather than trying to shrink them in the dryer. And I wouldn't put linen in the dryer even if the label said it was okay.

Linen shrinks A LOT.  I'd be worried they would shrink too much.  Tread lightly when hand-washing linen.  I usually wash gentle in cold and air dry.  The heat will make the fibers shrink.
