We don't turn it off, we just keep it set at 65 all the time. As it gets warmer, it comes on a lot less often.

I don't need to mess around with our thermostat because we have a programmable one. We keep the house fairly cool anyhow, so as the house warms up due to warmer weather outside, it just goes on less often.

We have a programmable thermostat. DH installed two; 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs. These saved a significant amount of money. They shut the heat off when the house is a certain temp.

If it is warm outside and cold inside, I'll shut the heat off and open all the windows. I'd really like to to open the windows and get some fresh air into the house but it is too cold.

I keep the thermostat set at 60 so when the temps outside hits 60 and stay that way I turn off the system. We have small space heaters for our rooms and will use those at night. Once the day temps stay above 65 we start opening the doors and windows during the day to get air moving thru the house. This will usually happen by mid-March. I wait to start the AC until temps in the house climb above 82.
