What snacks/drinks would you give your children after a game/practice?

What would you NOT want to give you child after a game/practice?

I am more concerned about what to feed them BEFORE games and practices. I like to give them healthy , energy producing foods and stay away from sugary , unhealthy food and drink.

Afterwards , its usually bedtime or meal time , so I feed them whatever we would be having at those times anyway. I don't worry too much about what they eat then. Although I do limit unhealthy choices at those times too.

My kids also drink lots of water , gatorade eat oranges , pretzals , etc. during practices and games.

My kids like gatorade after a practice. A good snack is also oranges, lots of vitaminC and quenches thier thirst to keep them hydrated.

We do snacks after games for our boys. Parents have brought pretty much anything over the years. I generally go for capri suns (cause they're cheaper, and plenty for the little kids), and sometimes cookies or crackers or something. People have brought gatorade or pop, and anything from chips, to goldfish, to anything really.

Our soccer fields do have consession stands though, and for $2 a ticket, you can get a food/candy item and a drink. We usually just do this since the money goes back to the fields anyway, and the kids LOVE picking out whatever they want at the consession stand.

I always tried to keep it healthy. For sure something to drink and than possibly fruit, pretzels, granola bars, etc.
All our practices were always before dinner so I never liked it when parents brought junk food for the kids (sugary drinks and something like a little debbie snack). Or our Cub Scout leader likes to do snacks when our meetings get over and she always has junk food. It wouldnt be so bad but sometimes our meetings do not get over until 8:30 and she brings fruit punch & donuts. I never got that.

I usually concentrate on beforehand as well, 2 of my girls play club soccer and the trainer for the girls gave us a guideline for this. She said to make sure they have carbs the night before and maybe some eggs and english muffin the morning of. If its a tournament and its hot out then Gatorade, otherwise its water. We don't do halftime snacks either and no oranges, as the acid is too hard on their stomachs. After the game we have granola bars, bananas or apple slices, and if it is hot (we love where 105 is a normal temp in the summer) its watermelon, grapes or cantaloupe. The trainer we work with is really big on nutrition and makes sure the girls know that the food they eat is fuel for their bodies, I feel really lucky to have someone like that in my girls' corner.

Our HS track coach always brought a TON of apple slices in bags (probably with a wash of lemon juice to keep from going brown? I don't know), oranges, bananas and lemons - me and another kid ate the lemons - and there was always enough for seconds and thirds and fourths. When we went to all day invitationals, we would be encourages to snack on carbs and protein all day - cheese sticks, bagels, veggies, fruits, etc. They provided a lot of good food. Parents would bring junk food somethings, but I think we got so "trained" that we would maybe have a small snack, but would concentrate on the healthy food instead because we understood the ramifications (eat the sugar snack - get a sugar high then a crash after, which may affect your performance.)
