Right now our kids are taking the MCA'S (Minnesota Comprhensive Assesments). They take them from 3rd grade up. I really hate having to teach to the test, but I suppose they are a necessary evil What standardized tests do your kids have to take?

Our private school uses the Standford Achievement Test 9/10. Our kids in public school take the California Standarized Test.

Testing is from grade 2-11.

The public schools also have so many "baseline" tests it makes my head spin! I swear they spend more time testing that actually learning. I heard a rumor that the school district was going to eliminate the baseline tests next school year as they aren't informative.

Yes we have a state test called the PSSA (Pennsylvania State Standard Assessments) for grades 3-11. All grades take the reading and Math parts and then 5, 8 and 11 take the writing and science parts also. Our kids finished the reading and math sections last week. My dd in 8th grade is doing the writing portion this week and will do the science portion next week.

I homeschool Hayvon but she still has to take our state tests... just not until next year. I'm not sure if that's the case for ALL homeschooled students in California. I'm going through an actual charter school, so it might be different because of that.

I know I've talked many times about how I have two good friends who homeschooled. One of them homeschooled all the way till high school graduation. So her DD that's the same age as mine never went to school until college. And the other mom homeschooled through JR High, and then the kids started HS. BOTH of them still gave their kids standardized tests. They liked knowing that their kids were on track and used it as a guide to see if there were special areas they needed to concentrate on.

But as to me.....both of my kids took the ISTEP (Indiana's test) most years and in the years they didn't the school system gave them another test. I always enjoyed seeing the results to see how my kids were doing.

The standardized tests are one of the main reasons I am pulling my younger two out of school. In Texas, we have the TAKS. Teachers' salaries and bonuses are tied to how the kids perform in some districts. For about 6 weeks leading up to the test, all the kids do is take previous tests as practice. Pathetic.

When I homeschool, I do plan on giving mine the IOWA tests. However, I will not teach to it.
