Nothing I can do now but..... - Page 2

I think teachers have a tough job and no matter what they do/say someone is not going to like it. I also agree- the teacher did not have to send a note home. Pretty soon they will not be able to talk about anything in schools.

Of course the parents should have been informed! We are talking about 5 year old children here, and death is not part of the curriculum in Kindergarten. They could have easily informed the parents without giving out the names of the child or his father.

I wasn't upset that she talked to them just would have appreciated the heads up that it was discussed. I did talk to my son and all is fine. The whole situation was sad....

You know, I don't know if the teacher's in our district would even be allowed to send a note home, due to confidentiality of the family. I know they discussed it in class, probably in an informal situation, but can you imagine how angry the family of little girl could have been?

Don't get me wrong, I see how you would want to know what was discussed with your child ... I just don't see how the teacher could have officially sent a note home.

Maybe I will ask DD's kindergarten teacher what she would do ... she probably already thinks I'm a little on the nutty side anyway.

My mom died when I was in 4th grade, no clue if my dad called all my friends parents or if they found out from the teacher whom I am sure he called. I will say many of them attended her wake as I clearly remember as did a few of my brother and mines teachers we had in elementary school. So really is it a bad horrible thing if we did know which parent it was. For me I remember thinking how wonderful it was with the support we got before and after...

When one of my DD's classmates passed away, a note was sent to all the parents of the students in that class. I felt that the school handled the situation well.
