How do you get good deals on airfare? Have you found that there are best days to book? What are some of the peaks/valleys for fares, destinations, seasonality, etc.?

I thought this was a good article: How to Get the Cheapest Flight Every Single Time

Having flexible dates can save you a lot, especially if you can travel during the week.

get email updates from webpages when the price goes down.

I know people have gotten cheap cheap flights just from a mistake on a web page, and they have to honor that. so be on the lookout for mistakes! LOL

Thanks for the article Kim, I'll make sure to read up on it before our next long distance trip.

How about at the airport?  Bringing your own snacks can help.  You can't bring water through security, but you can bring an empty water bottle and fill it up later.

Stay OUT of the gift shops!  Make sure you have things like gum, neck pillow, newspaper/magazine, etc. BEFORE you get to the double the price airport!!!

So true. We had to check most of our carryons on our last trip, and ended up with no spare diapers.  Would you believe NONE of the gift shops sold diapers??! And, yes, this was in America rolleyes.gif

Right!!!

I used to be a sucker for buying books at the airport but now that I have the ability to download Kindle books that expense has gone down.

For my DD, I bring her sippy filled with seltzer (that is all she drinks) and the airport security tester puts a dipstick in and she is good for the flight. Never thought about an empty water bottle, will put it in my list from now on, esp. on airlines that don't offer free snacks and drinks. I always bring breakfast for us so when we get to the airport after check in, we have food and it doesn't cost a penny. Usually, I make egg white Eng. muffin sandwiches for me and hubby and pancakes in a disposable container for the kids. I too sign up from the airlines we use the most to be on their email deals.
