What do they help with in the kitchen?

What do your preschoolers do to help in the kitchen, either cooking or cleaning up? Check out this list of suggested age-appropriate activities: MyPyramid.gov - Inside the Pyramid.

M loves to dump stuff in the bowl and stir, and she also helps put pizza toppings on and unloads the silverware from the dishwasher. I will try having her wipe the table.

I like that site!

dd4 helps with:
• \tHand items to adult to put away (such as after grocery shopping)
• \tPlace things in trash
• \tAdd ingredients
• \tTalk about cooking
• \tStir pancake batter
• \tKnead and shape dough
• \tName and count foods
• \tHelp assemble a pizza
• \tHelp measure dry & wet ingredients
• \tHelp make sandwiches
• \tUse an egg beater

She also rinses dishes, helps unload the dishwasher, uses the hand & stand mixer, get ingredients out of the cabinets and refrigerator.

dd7 does everything and just started cracking eggs for me. I'm not ready for my 4yr old to crack eggs.

I know! M is 3 and always wants to "open" the eggs. I don't think so!

Thanks! I like that site, too.

DD isn't quite 2, but she is putting things in the trash. That is the peak of her responsibility in the kitchen at this point.

I think I am going to print that chart.

Ds is 2.5. He loves to load the dishwasher, ie put the silver ware in. So long as we do not have any sharp knives we let him, or save the knives for last and daddy does it. He loves to "wash" dishes so I give him a rag and let him prewash the dishes. We do not do it normally but he feels he is helping. I have tried cooking with him a couple of times, he so far has not been interested. I think I will print off the list and try some of the other things.

Great topic! My ds is 4 and LOVES to cook! That boy can crack eggs better than I can! He is actually very talented and can cook scrambled eggs all by himself (except that I heat up the pan for him).
My dd is 2.5 and wants to do everything that her brothers do, but right now just stirs things, puts things in the sink or the trash, and helps with tasting! I do love it when they help, because they feel so important! I like doing little individual things, like individual mini pizzas, where they put everything on their own pizzas themselves.
