Do you keep a change jar?

And if you do, what do you keep it for? Savings? Spending money?

I'm actually discontinuing ours. It didn't help that one of the boys tripped over my cool jug and I've never replaced it. I just have told DD she can have whatever change she can find or I just toss it into my wallet and try to use it.

What do you do?

We have two; one for pennies and one for silver. We have a third that is for DH, he puts his change in there then digs it out for drinks during the week, since I told him he cannot use his card for sodas.
I have not decided what to do with them. We use to roll it up and take it to the bank, but I do not have that kind of patience. I will probably use one of those change machines for the pennies and put the cash into our bus money, for when Ds and I want to go off on the days we do not have the car. The silver will probably go into our vacation fund, which I will roll and take to the bank.

We have one as well and the girls and I will use it for our trip to see my mom this Summer. We have been adding to it since January, so not sure just how much is in there, but the girls are learning a lesson from it, so its worth it for me. When we get back from our vacation we will start it up agian.

I have one, but I don't let it fill up. DH won't spend any change except quarters, so those I leave for him. If I have change, I spend it. If I know I am going to the credit union, I put the change in a zip lock bag and take it in and put it in the machine. Then it goes straight into our savings account. That may be every month to six weeks. Last time I think it was $2.81.

Yes, dh has 'his' and I have 'mine'. Dh's is much larger since he spends more 'cash' than I do, I usually use checks or the cc. Anyway, dh just cashed his in this weekend, and had over $100 in it! He is using it to save for materials for the sailboat he is building us (just big enough for 3 people)

I just cashed in 'mine' and I had $13 I am putting it away though and using it the next time we want to go out to eat (of course this is only going towards it). With me working more now we've been eating out more - a sad fact of going back to work. However, we've been doing it too much as our Visa has reflected, so it's cash from now on. If we don't have it in cash, we're not going out.

I save 2 different containers of change. One for pennies and the other for silver change. I save it for "a hard time" when we need cash and we are having a bad money week. Sometimes, I just let it add up until I need it and sometimes, I will just throw it in the bank. The bank tellers have the coin machine and I trust them more than I do one of those random ones in grocery stores.

We have a little bucket on the bar that we keeo our change in...when it gets full, we let DS take it to the bank and put it in his bank account...but like others DH spends the quarters in the soda machine at work so it isn't usually ton of money, we've been doing it since Jan and I think there is around 60.00 in his bank account...he loves it and it is a great way for him to save for growing up days!!

We have change cup. There is usually $100 in it when I take it to Coinstar.

Not purposely...but yes, we do have change. About once a year I take it to coinstar and get a gc to Amazon.

we have a tin that dh cut a hole in the lid for the coins. takes a while to fill it, but it holds quite a bit, and when we cash it in it is nice to have. its fun to see how a little change here and there really does add up.
