Its July! The hight of grilling and cookout season. We just had the mother of all cookout days go by, how did you celebrate FRUGALLY??

Your challenge this month is too cook out as much as you can, but do it as frugally as you can! What deals are there to be had? Any tricks you can tell us? How about those 'summer salads'?

I made a pasta salad using Wacky Mac that I got from the store for .50 after coupon, and Italian dressing I had in my stockpile. I added some fresh veggies and had a great salad for less than $4. That was my contribution to the big party! And this is my kids favorite side dish. How about you?

There were some good deals on meat and hot dogs this last week for July 4th and most of it could be frozen for use later in the summer.

--Kabobs

Use steak or chicken when it's on sale. Put small chunks of meat on a skewer alternating with onion, peppers and mushrooms.

One thing I love to grill is hobo dinners, where everyone makes their own meal and wraps it in a foil packet. You can use cheap-o hamburger meat, veggies, and BBQ sauce to make a delicious meal! You can also do it with chicken, or do a pineapple, terikayi version... pretty much anything that can be wrapped in foil. That way you aren't limited to expensive things like steak.

That sounds fun!! The kids could really enjoy that too, creating thier own meals.

We LOVE hobo dinners (see below). We do ours with hamburger, sliced potatoes, onions, carrots, and salt and pepper. We've never gotten "fancy" and done teriyaki - but it sounds yummy! BTW - yes, I really DO have a picture of everything!

Over the 4th of July weekend we did an outdoor shrimp boil. This is also know as low country boil or frogmore stew. It was really easy, and so much fun! The instructions are found on the Old Bay website: The Original OLD BAY® Shrimp Boil Shrimp Fest. Aside from the shrimp, the ingredients are really inexpensive. If you can find one of those great BOGO shrimp deals, it's pretty frugal too.

I picked up a TON of asparagus for around $4-5 at Sam's Club. I made a marinade with fresh squeezed lemon, a few cloves of minced garlic, olive oil, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper. I let about half of the asparagus marinate in the fridge during the day and tossed it on the grill with our pork chops and we had an amazing veggie that the whole family loved eating with their fingers!

You are making me hungry Kim!

I do know that corn on the cob is wicked cheap this time of summer, my store usually runs a deal for less than .20 per ear. This grill wonderfully! And is always a summer treat.
