Mens button downs can be used for just about anything. One of my favorite skirts was a 30 minute sewing project from one of those. I also butcher the largest gowns I can find. TONS of fabric on those. Pullover sweaters can be turned into cardigans by just grabbing a pair of scissors and adding some bias tape. You can repurpose just about any item of clothing for very little oop.

THIS is why I need a sewing machine......you're making me want to head to the thrift store NOW :)

I have also been known to buy extremely large clothing just for the fabric at thrift stores.  I enjoy sewing but I'm not a seasoned seamstress by any means.  With fabric being very expensive, it would be foolish to buy it from the fabric store.  I also am a collector of sorts of patterns as it is.  So, there are times when all I have to do is take a garment apart, cut to size on the pattern and put back together.  I get cheap patterns from ebay.

I also get a lot of really good clothes for me and my family.  Half the fun is the search. I also enjoy getting other things like books, purses, plates, etc.

I could spend all day at the thrift store.  LOL

The only time you are able to write off your taxes is when you donate items to the charity.

Lots of wonderful ideas here. Have never really been a thrift store person myself, but I may have to change that! :)

I find a lot of decorative tins in various sizes, primed and repainted in a child's favorite color with their name painted on and you have a great reusable gift container.

Large glass bowls filled with various items make great center peices. Fill with water and float candles, fill with nuts and leaves or apples for fall, replace with small pumpkins & squash as Thanksgiving approaches, then glass ornaments and bead strands for Christmas. Or perhaps a very large candle surrounded by pebbles at the base.

Great ideas!

My grand daughter takes old books she finds ( THE 25 CENT type) and folds the corner of on page from top to inside corner and the next from bottom corner to top all the way around. Make sure you fold with sharp fold. then open the book glue covers together and you can spray paint and decorate with glitter etc. She puts tall taper candles in the smaller ones and sometimes will hang a medium one outside with peanut butter and bird seed. They are easy enuff for kids and can make them feel like they are really creative. Inexpensive enuff to use for a quick gift ( with candles, or something in the center) or a bird feeder in the winter.
