What do you do with leaves after you rake them?

Are you allowed to burn them? Does your city pick them up? If they pick them up do you have to pay for it?

Our city will pick them up but you have to buy special bags to put them in and there can't be anything else in the bag. I think they are $10 a box.

We have a big recycle bin we can put them in. This year also our city will let us rake them into the street on certain days and then a city truck will come by and sweep them up.

We compost them until the trees start to really lose their leaves (we have a lot) and then we bag them in brown paper bags. We pay $75 a year extra on our trash bill to have them pick up yard waste. If we took them to the dump it would be free, but the first year we lived here we did that and we had so many bags it took 4 trips to the dump, which is 30 minutes away) to get rid of them all.

our city picks up yard trimmings in brown paper yard bags weekly. i usually alternate between the front yard and the backyard so i don't have to do too much at once.

Are you allowed to burn them? Nope

Does your city pick them up? Nope...in our city each homeowner contracts with a garbage hauler. So our garbage co will pick up yard waste of any kind, in brown kraft bags.

If they pick them up do you have to pay for it? There is no extra fee to pick up yard waste.

We have 3/4 of an acre, heavily treed lot. And we are lazy.

As much as possible, DH mowes over the leaves w/ the mulcher. The ones in flower beds he uses a blower. Sometimes our neighbor, who has one of those giant mowers w/ the leaf vacuum like they use on golf courses will do ours for us. When the time comes for actual raking, we rake onto giant tarps and drag the tarps out into the woods & dump the leaves in the woods behind our house. It's usually a combo of all that.

I have a full acre outside of city limits that has dozens of trees and backs up to a heavily wooded area. I run them over with the mower and let Mother Nature take care of it from there.
