Homeschooling gone too far?

I've been following the Petit murders, one of the alleged killers is currently on trial for his life. The murders were horrific, the bodies were burned in their home. Dr. Petit was beaten to an inch of his life, its a miracle he survived.

A Homeschooling mother here in CT has decided to give her 6 and 7 year old a lesson on civics and has them sitting in the courtroom for this MURDER trial??

WTH????? I'm sorry, but I think that is just going too far.

Here is the link. Rediculous.

Raw Video: Mother Brings Homeschooled Children To Hayes Trial 9/15 -- CTnow

I think she is nuts. We are talking about a murder trial that has jurors being excused because the case it too upsetting. Take them to small claims court for crying out loud. Why a national murder trial? And a better question, a Judge lets a 6 year old sit in a courtroom???

Children do not need to see and hear gruesome pictures and recounts of what happened that horrible day.

I turn the channel when it's on the news because my 6 year old doesn't need to hear about a home invasion, two girls being tied to their beds, and an 11 year old being raped as well.

I agree, go watch an episode of Judge Judy or a small claims case.

This mother wants to see the trial first hand and she's using the homeschooling as an excuse to do so, IMO. I'm all for kids sitting in court as a learning tool - I did it - in high school, in small claims court.

I personally wouldn't do it.

But I also have a problem with young kids, being brought to the funeral home when a loved one dies. They have no clue why they are there.

Thats exactly what I said on the new's facebook page! LOL

If she wanted to teach her kids about civics, justice and the law, then go to small claims court or watch and episode of Judge Judy!

why would you want to subject your children who do not understand (really they don't) to awful details that they will remember the rest of their lives? what a nut job. that is mental abuse.

pick some traffic violations to sit in on.

I can't believe 6 and 7 y/o children could quietly sit that long in a courtroom without getting fidgety and causing a disruption.

I agree that there are other, less horrific trials these kids could sit in on. However, I don't think children that age could fully understand what's going on in a trial anyway.

Oops, double post.

I must be the opposite of this lady. I'm keeping my kids in fairytale land as long as possible.

I agree with Ruthie, I don't take my kids to viewings or funerals either.

I think that is way too young! Now if they were teens maybe a less gruesome trial, but at 6 and 7 she is just crazy!

I'm not surprised though, the media loves to show all the crazy homeschoolers!
