Lice questions

Thread Starter
I found out yesterday that the next door neighbor girl has head lice. I think she's had it for a while because I've noticed her scratching her head for some time now. I'd even asked her if one of her parents checked her head for any problems and she insisted that she just had a dry scalp. Right.

Anyway, we've all checked each other and dh and I have checked dd numerous times and we don't see anything on her (or at least we don't see any of her dandruff walking ). Anything that the neighbor girl could have possibly laid on in our house recently has been laundered or thoroughly cleaned.

These are my questions:

1) How long should I politely request that this child not come inside of our house?
2) How long should I keep my dd from having sleepovers at the neighbor's house (dd mostly hangs out with the older girl who is lice-free, not the younger one with lice)?
3) When will this phantom itching in my head stop?

I would keep my child- and this is me and Lice is my total worst WORST nightmare.. I would call the mother and explain that my child(ren) would not be over until she was lice clean- and their daughter was not allowed over at all-
trust me- you can not see lice- and the itching doesnt start until it is a total FULL blown case-
I am a loon when it comes to lice though- I would do the old school thing if it was legal - like back in my grama's day and dump gas on my kids head if I thought that it would work-
keep an eye on your daughter- and make sure everything has been washed and dryed in HOT water - that is what kills them....

again- I am the mom who when I get the letter or call that it was found in the classroom I take the kids to the hair salon and get their headsshaved that night and wash everything in hot water with a cap of bleach and dry it for 1 and a half hours

I would move

2) How long should I keep my dd from having sleepovers at the neighbor's house (dd mostly hangs out with the older girl who is lice-free, not the younger one with lice)?

I would never let her go back over there, but then I would move

3) When will this phantom itching in my head stop? :Ha Ha

It will not stop till you move

Honestly...lice freaks me out. We've not had it on our kids (knock on wood), but my sister dealt with it with a neighbor child whose parents thought it was 'too much trouble' to treat it.

I wouldn't allow playdates or sleepovers. If the parents asked, I would tell them why.

When you asked the child, she was probably too embarassed/scared to say anything to her parents. In kindergarten my teacher asked me to go to the nurse with a note. I had no idea what the note said, I had no idea where the nurse was. I just knew I wasn't going. I sat outside the classroom for a while, then went back in. The teacher asked if everything was okay and I said yes. Later my mom found the note and FREAKED out. That was the 1st time I had it.
I know lice is a huge thing and I hope I never have to deal with it but it's not the childs fault. I won't give any advice because I've only delt with this as a child.
