Cub Scout Pinewood Derby

Just had to take a minute to share some happy news....

My ds won a trophy this weekend! It was our Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. DH and DS built the car together (took us twice as long because of DS's fine motor skills) but they had a fun time working together. This year, we chose spray paint as it was easier than a little paint brush.

Their car won second place for speed! He was so excited jumping up and down at every race -- It was just awesome to see his smile.

This comes after a week of failing a Social Studies Test and two D- in Math.

Just thought I'd share a happy moment.:rah rah: :yay!:

That is such wonderful news. He must be so proud. DS and his dad are supposed to be doing this and haven't even started yet. I'm concerned about it because DS likes to goof off so much, plus has the motor challenges, and DH has no patience. I tried to get DH to work w/DS on his homework this weekend; a very bad experience.

DS told me last week how he wants to earn trophies for his room. You must be so proud to have your son in the elite!

We have our Pinewood Derby this week and I'm pretty useless in this department. Any tips you can pass on??

Our secrets aren't really so secret,
LOTS of graphite on the wheels.

Keep the design simple. We had a simple cut (cut the block in half and made an IPod with silver spray paint)

Weight must be at 5.0
NOT 4.9 or 5.1

Axel prep is key. Buff out the humps on the tires.

Sand it, sand it, sand it.

Most of all have a good time with your boy.

Yes, Blue and Gold is next and it'll be trying as my DS is denner and will carry in the flag. His motor skills aren't the greatest so I always worry about him hurting himself or someone else.

Special thanks to everyone's kind words. I appreciate having so many dear friends to share successes with!!!
