Standardized Testing and Special Needs

How does your special needs child handle standardized testing at school? Does school offer a different arrangement for the kids with special needs?

Dd has her first Meap next year. They did put in her IEP that she will have extra time and be able to have the directions re-read to her, etc....
However, knowing how long it takes her to do one page of math homework I am kind of nervous because I fear she will be overwhelmed with the whole process.

Even w/out his IEP (which we are fighting to get reinstated) DS is allowed extended test time, having the test read to him, when possible, and breaks, plus be allowed an exercise ball or a squeeze ball. They were using a trampoline when he was on the IEP and said they could get one where he goes for individual help, which hasn't happened. One HUGE problem is that his tics have become so prevalent they are distracting and frustrating him.

A standardized test is merely administered under standardized or controlled conditions that specify the children's responses to all questions. The advantage of the test, if properly used, is that it can discard biases in assessment of individual children thereby permitting comparison based on standards. This test is part of the federal NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND LAW. But have you heard that this same legislation has posted controversies including cheating scandals in public schools that were noted in Pennsylvania and Atlanta? The policy itself has triggered cheating and now, it is elevating. It deduces that proper action must be done because this must not be tolerated.
