Anybody have a baby at 34 weeks, or around then? Is that safe??

Anyone have any advice for her? My babies didn't come out until 42 weeks, so I'm not much help.

I had #4 at 36 weeks. He was fully developed but had double pneumonia. He was a crash section and that was the main cause, other than that he was healthy weighing in at 7# 12 oz. With that size I was grateful he didn't stay in there another 4 or 5 weeks!

I had my son at exactly 34 weeks, The biggest thing with a 34 week is eating. Well usually anyway they can't go home until they follow the hospital's feeding plan. My son got to come home a little over two weeks. Their so tired that they don't want to eat and don't really know how. Somebody eles child could be different it just depends. THe nurses always put it this way, suddenly when their around 36 or 37 weeks the little light bulb comes on and they just know when to start eating.

I guess I should have added my baby was only 4 pounds 8 oz and he had to weigh at least five before he could come home too that was another factor. But he was healthy thank goodness!

Wow! I was two weeks early with Nicholas, and he was 8 lb. 15 oz. I was also very grateful he came out early, otherwise it would have for sure have had to been a c-section. He had to go under the lamp because of a little bit a jaundice. His eyes were yellow, which can be kind of scary. I understand that's common in "early" babies.

My 2nd child (our son), was born @ 34 wks. He weighed 6lbs 13oz. He stayed in the hospital 3 days & went home when I did. He did have some breathing issues, but otherwise was pretty healthy. He does have asthma, but he probably would have had that anyways. He's 11 now, & no one would ever dream that he was a premie!

My last baby (number 5) was born at 29 weeks. She weighed just 2 pounds 15 ounces. She had to be in the NICU for a month. She had a feeding tube for 3 weeks, she was breathing on her own after about 2 weeks)( no oxygen tube). She is a healthy 3 1/2 year old today. It was a scary time but we kept the faith. She didn't have any real problems except being so small and born 11 weeks early.

I thought I would share with you that I am one of those women who has a history of premature births. Starting with my daughter at 25 weeks. My others are all before 34 weeks.

I am currently 9 months along, at 37 weeks. The absolute longest I have ever carried a child.

First off, tell her to relax, stress at this point causes contractions. Try not to think about it, do day by day. Thats whats worked for me.
Next, is she taken any injections? Like progesterone? That may be something to speak with her doc about. Most usually take till 36 weeks along. Has she seen a specialist? That would be a direction too.
Pending on where she goes to deliver, they have a cut off limit of what they will allow to deliver at. So where I am, my local hospital is a level 3 NICU that will allow any birth after 34 weeks. So for me, now, I am in a safe spot.
Once a baby is born they usually drop a lb so if born before that mark they most likely will need to spend time at hospital. Feeding is usually an issue and formula should be used. Ventilator to assist in the breathing as the surfactant hasn't fully developed. (unless she has had a betamethasone shot, another thing to speak with doc about) overall, the issue is the baby has a high viabilty of life will only need some assistance at first, and long term pending on lungs will have a small chance of asthma. The longer she can hold the baby in her tummys incubator the better. DONT STRESS. I know its hard. She needs to let it go and focus on day to day.
Do keep us abreast of the outcome. Prayers sent to her and baby.

I had my baby at 34 weeks and she was 7lbs 15 oz. I had a very difficult pregnancy on bed rest and my doctor had planned to induce my labor on the day that my daughter was born, but my water broke first at 4am in the morning. I might also mention that I knew the exact day of conception because my husband came into town for only two days after three months on the road and then had to return to work immediately. I was surprised that she was so large, but they told me that I was pre-diabetic during pregnancy, so that could have something to do with why she was so large as a premi baby. My baby had no problems either short term or long term and went home from the hospital with me. I also was told that girl babies are much stronger than boy babies when it comes to premature babies, according to what my doctor told me. Either way, the longer the gestational period the better and they say that 36 weeks to 40 weeks is the safest ultimately.

Mine arrived at 32 and 33 weeks. I had normal pregnancies and non-induced, natural fast deliveries. Both of my children are completely healthy with no complications or medical issues. They just wanted out lol
