KMart question- 5 for $10, do I HAVE to buy 5?

The sign says 5 boxes of cereal for 10 dollars- what if I just buy 2 or 3? Will they ring up as 2.00 or the normal price? What about other stores?

Thanks!

I think it depends...nice huh? LOL

At my grocery stores, when there is a promo like that 10 for $10, 5 for $10 etc You don't need to buy the designated amt to get the savings (you do however, most of the time, need to have your store card scanned).

I don't shop at KMart, so maybe someone else knows? Or you could ask at the store, or call before you go.

I'd call and ask~ usually it will say must buy x amount to get this deal, d if it doesn't you can buy whatever quantity; but I haven't been to a K-Mart in 4 or 5 years so I'm not really sure either.

Hello.  Did you, the original poster, or any one else ever find out the answer to this question?

Regarding Kmart only.

I am not sure about K-mart specifically, but at the store I shop they will say specifically Must Buy 5 if you have the buy that quantity.  Most of the time you do not have to buy that quantity to get the discount.  When I buy stuff that says that I just watch the register to see if I get the discount on the lesser quantity.

At our Kmart you can buy any quantity, you don't have to buy all 5 to get the deal.  Often times the ad will say 5 for $10 or $x.xx each, but I've never run into that at Kmart.

Walgreens is one store I know for sure you have to buy the quantity specified to get the deal, but their ads normally show that.

Thank you both, especially JessicaM. Right before I read your ending I was thinking on Walgreens because I also know that they definitely do enforce the quantity.  As more items are rung up, the prices of each item drops until the grand total equals the advertised price.  As a consumer I hate this, but if I were running a store, I would be in love with that idea. After all, I believe the main reason companies offer discounts on quantity purchases is to get items off the shelf at a quicker rate than normal.
