Sugar Coated Easter Eggs!!!!

My mom started making these for us kids years ago and I helped my dd's do one for each of theirselves this year. They turned out pretty cute.

Will I have finally got this craft finished. It took me a few days and one collapsed egg, but here are the directions and the finished results.

You start off with a balloon and a skein of crochet thread.

You wrap the thread around the ballon in all different directions. Use entire skein of thread. It can be kind of tricky to start cause the thread wants to slide off but be patient and it will eventually start working out for you.

The pic below is what it should look like when you get done wrapping the thread around the balloon.

Next step is take some Water and Sugar, (just plain white sugar) and make a mixture of very thick paste.

Saturate the entire balloon with the sugar water. I first dipped the ballon in a bucket of thinner sugar water to get the bottom then I had the girls pour the thicker mixture over the top.

Then you have to leave them hanging to dry. It took a couple of days. Before the bottom is entirely dry, if the balloon hasn't shrunk up or popped on it on pop it and smash the bottom flat.

After the egg is dry, you cut a hole in the front of it, and
Hot glue some lace around the hole.

And add some decorative flowers and fill with easter grass and either some easter eggs, bunnies or chicks.

Sorry the pics are sideways.

Let me know if anyone attempts these. They are really fun to make, just make sure you have an area to work in that can get messy or put newspapers down.

Those are really adorable!

I see you did it outside, our weather is not ready for such an outdoor project, is it something that could be done indoors? In your opinion.

Cute!  I missed these last year so thank you for bumping them up.

Might attempt these, but smaller so I can hang them in the storage room in the basement.  I can put a fan in there to keep the air moving.

Any problems with ants? I've done this with glue, but sugar might be cheaper. hmmm.....
