What's the best cheap fabric softner? - Page 3

I use baking soda. My kids have sensitive skin. No smell and no rashes.

I've tried vinegar and it doesn't work for me...it might depends on your water or other variables on how well it works for one person or another.

I use dryer sheets and usually it's Bounce, just because it's the fragrance I find least offensive and what works for me. I also cut them in half. Less smell and it takes away the static.

I know a few people that do a method with liquid softener. They soak a regular washcloth with it. Let it dry and then toss it in with the load of laundry in the dryer. Supposedly that works really well and the washcloth soaked in softener lasts for more than 10 loads. I'll see if I can find a recipe online.

Soak a washcloth in full strength liquid fabric softener. Wring out excess, then lay out to dry first before using–helps prevent staining laundry the first time. To use: toss the dried washcloth in the dryer and use again and again until it no longer works. Resoak when needed (you should be able to do a few dozen dryer loads per fabric softener soak).

Found info here...lots of other tips some folks might want to try:

I stopped using fabric softener liquid or sheets in the dryer because of my kiddos sensitive skin. I bought the dryer balls (they advertise on tv or you can get them at discount stores or cvs) and I love them. The inital cost was $10 but I have used them in every load since I bought them and we have no static and the towels are nice and fluffy.

I use a no named dryer sheet, and use the sheet over and over. I add new ones periodically, but just keep chucking them back in the dryer. I haven't noticed a negative effect at all
