Knocking sound coming from inside bedroom wall

Anyone dealt with this? We just bought a 30 year old house and for the past few days I've been hearing knocking sounds coming from inside our bedroom wall. It is loud! It is a constant knock this is loud and in rapid succession for about a minute, then will stop and then start again.

It has done this several times today already, and I was 'lucky' enough to catch it on video so my dh can hear what it sounds like. Can an animal be that loud? I don't hear any scratching or shuffling, it's more like a rap rap rap rap rap really loud in rapid succession.

Oh joy! Any ideas would be appreciated!

Thanks!

My first thought was what type of heat do you have sometimes in old houses pipes will have a knocking sound with pressure building for boiler system.

Are you sure it's in the wall and not on the outside of the house? How often does it do it? Sound like a woodpecker to me!

Oh no! Hopefully you don't have a squirrel or something in there.

That's what it sounds like when the heat kicks in at our house.

That was my first thought too. We had one outside our bathroom window and I thought DH was knocking on the walls. He thought it was me downstairs If it is a woodpecker- make sure you get it to go away- my aunt had one do almost $300 worth of damage to her house!

Sounds like a woodpecker to me. It is amazing how much noise they can make with their beaks.

Thanks gals!!! It WAS a woodpecker!!! Dh came home and inspected the outside where the noise was and saw insulation on the ground outside our window! He then looked up and sure enough there was a Woody Woodpecker hole right by the wall of our window! Yikes!

He is at Home Depot right now buying this foam stuff to spray in all the holes - there are a few small ones and the golf ball sized one by our window. He said if that doesn't work 'more drastic measures can be taken' and I'll spare you but they involve human bodily fluids! :0 Looks like they were thinking of making a nest, from the sounds of it they had already hopped in! How unnerving, but I'm so impressed you guys knew what it was without even hearing it. I at first thought it was our wreath banging on the side of the house. This is all new, when we had the house inspected there was no large hole.

Ah, the joy of home owner ship. At least it wasn't spooks! I am only half kidding there. I am a huge chicken...and ds wouldn't go upstairs by himself, he took the cat with him. No wonder she acted all interested - SHE knew what it was!
