Confusing...low fat or high fat?

All the different ways to eat, i'm so confused as to which is healthiest! I hear that low fat is bad for you cuz it uses fake substitutes..and then that high fat is bad cuz you will have bad blood pressure etc. Wow...what do you think?

Most processed food is going to be bad for you anyways. Fresh foods are better for you overall but if you need to have some of the processed stuff look for stuff that is in the middle of the fat range. Also look out for sodiums as well. There are different guidelines for different people which makes it hard. Some very active people need more calories and fat to keep up with their active lifestyle while someone who is not so active needs less to keep running. Not all fat free stuff necessarily uses substitutes but those that don't can have a very bland flavor. Just depends on the type of food you eat.

Unprocessed food that is "low fat" shouldn't have any substitutes in it. Like, low fat yogurt or sour cream - they are just made from low fat milk. But processed foods yes - there is so much else to consider.

I usually go by the Michael Pollan Food Rules | Michael Pollan he doesthe no more than 5 ingrediants deal where you try to only eat natural things that would but i say eat whatever you want but don't go overboard.

Myths & Truths About Nutrition talks about fats, ive heard its best to just eat like your ancestors. As in the Michael Pollan book he talks about how the Inuit eat a lot of fatty foods and very little grain and are traditionally very healthy because its natural and quite possibly their bodies are naturally enginerred via natural selection/heredity to work well with the foods that were found in their normal region.

Sometimes i listen to the Nutrition diva podcast via Itunes and she says try a few different diets a week or 2 at a time and see which one leaves you feeling healthier and energized and allows u to lose the weight you need. Because you're not really supposed to do diets it's supposed to be a life
style change. |

Alternatively, if you have the money go to a nutritionist and they will help look at your nutritional needs and devise a plan

It depends on what you are talkin gabout low fat vs high fat.
a lot of dairy things (cottage cheese, cheese, milk, sour cream) is better in the low fat options. Butter is better real so that would be a high fat.
ANYTHING processed that is low fat is what they are saying is not good for you. Also some of this also has to do with combination eating like having a fatty streak and a large serving of a grain or pasta. Where if you had a fatty steak and a large serving of veggies is a better combination.
