Extreme Couponing Show Vs Store/coupon policies

So there are a lot of things that perterb me about the extreme couponing show. Does anyone else think the stores on the show are bending the rules because its on tv? Or do you think that they would allow everyone to shop like this?

For example the majority of copons, especially all the P&G ones, state no more than 4 like coupons in the same shopping trip yet these people are using upwards of 80 or more in some instances.

Next is the overages issue. All the coupons say cannot be redeeemed for cash, and on last nights show the store stuck to that and applied it to her other items. But last weeks show, Nathan was given 41.00 back in cash for coupons that hadn't been scanned.

There was also an article on yahoo about J'aime who some viewers caught that she was using coupons on an item that was different than what the coupon stated. Which is also a big no no. (I goofed once and didnt pay attention to the fine print and got the wrong ML size on mouthwash it had to be 500 ML or larger and the one I got was like 494 ML when I got to the register that coupon wouldnt scan) I dont recall if the cashier entered some of her coupons manually or not but seems that would be the only way you could use a coupon when you didnt buy the product specified

So my question is do you think that if you went to the same store and tried to shop like this that you would be allowed the same leeway? Is this reality or is this the tv version of "reality" where things get fudged a bit to make for good tv?

I have a feeling some of it is stretched a little bit for good tv, at least some of the shoppers. Some of the other ones are a little more believable.

I too got frustrated as I watched the extreme couponers last night because none of our local stores would ever allow double-couponing or, at most, 4 coupons per product per transaction. I do know that some stores in different parts of the country still have double coupon days but doubt that many would allow someone to pick up 100 pieces of the same item and use 100 coupons to get them all free. As with every reality show on television, everything is blown out of proportion and eventually leaves us who are in the REAL WORLD feeling inadequate for not being able to bring home $1,000 worth of groceries home free every month.

My thing is I do not need or want 100 of an item. To be honest if I get 4 items for free that will take me a few months to use, I am perfectly happy. For instance, I bought 4 packs of 5 Mac and Cheese at Target in there great save event for $1.98. On the side I got a coupon for a free 4 pack of Easy Mac. Basiclly for $8 I got 20 boxes of Mac and Cheese and 16 cups of Easy Mac. Will take me months to use and not take up too much space. I do not have that space, nor want to take up space for all that. Maybe I am just not into it that much. Just get my few free cheap items and am happy. Not sure....lol

I think this show is going to make manufacturers rethink their coupon rules, and maybe even how many the produce. Which will hurt those of us who don't break the rules.

Funny thing about that is many coupons have a limit of how many you can use per transaction but its the stores that decide to let them use them all anyways. I don't know if its going to be more of a manufactoring change as much as a store policy change. But yes I too feel like a slacker because I don't coupon to the extreme though DH did watch last night with me and said "please don't get like that"

That's funny, because my husband and I watched it, and he was like "Honey, you need to get your game on!" I agree though, I don't have the time or inclination to get ALL the stuff they do. Seriously, who needs 15 Maalox? I only use coupons for things I already use, not just to "get a bargain" that will collect dust.

My local stores would never go for it. In fact, I have problems sometimes at my Walgreens for just a few coupons. My local Krogers has changed their coupon policy in just the last couple of weeks and I do believe it is a direct result of the show. The people on the show tend to have a hoarding issue. I will buy enough till the next sale but never more than that. If I get something free or next to free that I can't use it, then I give it to friends and/or charity.

I read a article about a couple of the "extreme couponers" that they had stated that in order to be on the show that they HAD to do the biggest shop of their life. I guess it is all about ratings I have had more troubles with using my coupons since the show aired then ever before. And I get the comments all of the time about weather I have watched the show. I want to just say yes but I coupon to save our house much needed funds! We have 1 store in our town that does double coupons but you have a limit of 20 total coupons and 4 like products. So with that said the stores shown on tv must break/bend alot of store policies.

I thought the 41.00 Nathan got back was for coupons the cashier missed. I've had that happen before, cashier misses coupons and I pay then they ring up coupons that were missed and give me cash for the amount. But maybe I misunderstood what happened.

I really think they bend the rules for "good tv", just to see how far some of them can go and what they can get.

I've thought about this, too. Maybe the stores will chg policies but not mfrs because they put those coupons out there, if these crazy people aren't using them someone else will. But the stores may decide they don't want to accept them in such ridiculous quantities. Granted they are reimbursed by the mfrs but it's wiping out their stock and they may lose those sales to other customers.

I'd love for them to show exactly how they get all the coupons, how much they pay for them, etc, and their total cost in the end after they pay for the coupons or the newspapers to get the coupons. Better yet I'd like to see these people buy a normal cart full of groceries to actually feed a family for a week instead of 100 candy bars, 10 packs of diapers for their non-existant kids, 50 bottles of mustard, half a cart of dishwasher soap, 10 bags full of pasta, and 10 cases of flavored water!
