where are you all finding Borax at Target? I couldn't find it anywhere, and the employees were clueless.

How about the washing soda?

Borax at Target is with the laundry detergent. Depending on how yours is set up, look on the top shelf or bottom (mine used to be on top before all detergents, now it is on bottom after all of them).

Washing Soda I found at Wal-Mart in the laundry aisle but with the stain fighters...not detergent. The grocery store also has both washing soda and borax (Target by me does NOT have washing soda). HTH

I know this thread is a few months old, but I was wondering how it was holding up.  Is it still working well?  I usually buy the cascade complete packs when Amazon has them on for a good deal, but this would be so much cheaper with just a little bit of prep work.

I also want to add that we have really hard water.  Will this make a difference in the effectiveness of the homemade detergent?

I'm still using it and still loving it...the washing soda makes all the difference in the cloudiness.....it's gone! I have no idea about the hard water....anyone else? I know there are a few ladies here using this or a similar homemade detergent smile.gif

Dh asked us to stop using it. Not matter what I tried we could not get rid of the cloudiness. So we went back to over priced Cascade.frown.gif Although he still loved the homemade laundry soap, so at least that is still in use.

Same with my DH, he didn't like the homemade dishwasher soap, he ended up buying bottles of the Kirkland (Costco) brand at Costco.  He did the same thing with the homemade laundry soap, he ended up buying soap at Costco too, but I still really like the homemade laundry soap and I am still using it, so I guess on my laundry I am saving $.  I think he got something on his work shirt and the homemade stuff couldn't get it out, but for regular washing it works great.

Do you add the dawn to the mix when you put it in the jar? Or do you add it to the mix when you put it in the dishwasher? Sorry new to all this!

I have a question, too!  How much vinegar do you use for the rinse aid?  Thanks!

I added the dawn seperatly (I think it would make the detergent "Chunky" if you put it right into the mix. The vinegar- I only use in my rinse dispenser. It is all I have used in there for years! I just fill up the dispenser.
