ARGH! In law vent!

Thread Starter
As some of you know my inlaws are visiting us for 18 - EIGHTEEN - Days!! I am on day #7 and am losing it. Can I scream here? Argh! Argh!

I won't go into the boring details. Lets just suffice it to say we are already butting heads and I have 11 days to go...make that 10. They get on the plane on my birthday the 25th...

They have given us all the flu and now I'm dealing with snide comments. Help me!

No advice needed - just needed to vent.

Do you have immediate access to any alcohol?

As I told you when you first mentioned them coming....I'd die...seriously die. I couldn't stand anyone staying with me for that long. So you have my utmost sympathy!!! How's the food situation going? Is your MIL satisfied with her meals or not?

There is absolutely no way I could host my inlaws, my parents, anyone! for more than two days. Bless you! It seems you are almost half way there. I agree with Mamax3--alcohol!!!

I just make it into a game. The nastier they get, the more "kill them with kindness" I get.

As a matter of fact, that's when I won over my father-in-law. He and my MIL came to stay at our house early in our marriage. It wasn't so much as us butting heads as we were just completely different people with different points of view (him a country guy, me a city girl). I used to stay awake at night trying to think of something nice I could do for them. Finally on the last day, I got up early made them a big breakfast and banana bread (or something equally lame) and packed them sack lunches "for the road". I mean really, this is not something I'd do for any other house guest, not because I wouldn't want to, but because it never seemed like the right thing to do. Anyway, my FIL was blown-away that I actually packed them lunch. He kept standing there in my kitchen, holding that pathetic brown paper sack, saying, "You made this? You really made this? With your own hands? For us? You made this?" That was it, I was in his good graces from that moment on.

Good luck. I remember when DH's sister attempted to live with us while I was seven months pregnant. She explained it was to help get her life back on track ... in reality she had no where to go until her friend's apartment opened up in two months. I ended up going out to my mother's house and just sat there and cried.

That night, I bought her a train ticket back to Seattle.

I can laugh aboutnit now.

Hugs to you. I can't imagine having inlaws that long. Mine are here for a few hours and I'm done.
