I had an elderly uncle out on the farm in the country. He couldn't get out much in winter, so I gave him a non-perishable food basket - including his instant coffee that he always drank, his tin of butter cookies, and Reese's peanut butter cups.
I have an uncle in Maryland who really has no needs, he lives in his own little senior apartment w/ kitchenette but he takes his meals in the main building of his complex, so he really has no need to cook. I did a photo calendar for him a few years back. I often bake cookies & mail them to him. Last year I made a donation to Heifer, International - a gift of ducks and geese to a family in a 3rd world country. I chose that because he used to work for the Dept. of Conservation & counted ducks and geese/ tracked their migratory patterns all over North America for his career.
